where are good apartment complexes located??!!!
hi all,
well i am very excited about moving to arizona, but i am hitting a roadblock when it comes to apartments. i am looking and looking on-line but it seems to be harder to look for apartments in my price range. i know their out there, but all it seems is that they are in bad neighborhoods, and the ones that look half-way decent on-line, get bad ratings from residents (i have been on apartmentratings.com checking out ratings from residents). if someone is going to be working in peoria, what area is the best to look at! i am looking in glendale, peoria, surprise, and north phoenix somehow but i am not sure what areas are the best to live in with a rent range of $500-$700. i am looking for a one bedroom. if there is anyone out there that knows of good neighborhoods to live in in either the glendale or peoria, and surprise, or even phoenix proper (like what are good streets to live on and nice apartments) areas and know of good apartment complexes either from word of mouth or living there, please please please let me know! i have to have this set up before i drive all the way across the country.
thank you!!!

Olive Avenue Apartments, I've seen them and they're so-so. The good thing about them is they're right across the street from Glendale Community College. So if you're planning on attending that school, they would be perfect, otherwise, it's too close to the college and you'll get the college crowds over there so I wouldn't recommend them.
Since the Phoenix metro area is so spread-out, recommending a good apartment complex depends on several factors - Where you you'll be working or attending school, and how far you're willing to drive and spend time in traffic. Generally, all of the Phoenix metro area is good, as long as you stay away from the Maryvalle and south Phoenix areas, from Central to 35th Ave north of Southern Ave. Maryvalle is considered one of the most dangerous areas, I'd feel safer in south Phoenix than in Maryvalle. It's the area in west Central Phoenix, from McDowell to Camelback, from 35th to 75th Avenues.
There are plenty of good and reasonably priced apartments between Northern Ave and Bell Road, and they're very close to Peoria where you'll be working.
Here's a website you can use: Apartments for Rent and Homes for Rent

hi!
thanks for your response magnum mike. i will do my best to pay attention to my maps and stay away from undesirable areas. i will be teaching at a school that is on n. 111th avenue in peoria, so that is my target area. i am hoping for a commute of up to 25 minutes. that will hopefully give all of you a general idea. i am a teacher, so i wil be living on a teachers salary. thanks again!

111th Ave, that's quite a ways to the west and it'll be quite a drive for you if you decide to pick the Olive Ave Apartments. Do you what major east/west streets it'll be close to?
I haven't been to the western areas of Peoria in a while, but I believe the area you'll be working in is new, and you'll be able to find good apartments for the price range you're looking for. Use that website and enter Peoria for your search criteria. Glendale also has very good neighborhoods, that are away from the downtown Glendale area, which is 59th Ave & Glendale. The further west you go in Glendale and Peoria, the better neighborhoods you'll find.

thanks for the quick reply, hmmm according to the map one of the cross streets is olive avenue to the north, olive avenue exit for my school.
as far as olive creek is concerned, i did speak with someone and asked about the community. it is directly across from the college, and seeing as i am not in the mood to deal with more rowdy students after a day of teaching, i know it wouldn't be a great choice for me thanks for all your help.
is west cactus road in phoenix a bad area? there are some nice looking apartment homes within my price range i saw, called woodestone apartment homes hmmm....

Well, it looks like you'll at least be working in a nice area. Looking for an apt in your price range is difficult, as you know. Usually a good apt will start at $700 and up. How about renting a room out of a home up near your work? Try craigslist if that interests you. Otherwise, you will be traveling a ways to work from a much less desirable area. A one bedroom from $500-700 is low and will get you in apts that are filled with low income, high amounts of crime, ect.
You asked about "w cactus rd". What is the other cross street? In the future, please give both cross streets as this place is impossible to decipher otherwise. You may be looking near El Mirage on the westside, which is not the greatest place to live, or near Metrocenter Mall a little more centrally located, though another not so great area. Have you checked out Surprise? If I run across anything, I'll let you know.

Yeah, that would be Metrocenter area. Not the greatest place to live. Some will say it's not that bad, and maybe it's not anymore. I lived over there 12 years ago (first apt) and I had police helicopter overhead a lot.
I just checked CL for rooms for rent near your work and there are many that are really nice for $500.
