Apache Junction has some dicey areas. It's kind of a strange city, nice areas intermingled with not so nice ones. You have to drive around and see what's around you before you choose where to buy. Mesa has some very nice areas. Mainly you want to avoid the older parts of the city (although there are some clean "historic districts") but they're still in the "bad" areas of the city.

Thanks everyone with all your help. We will be flying out in a few weeks and will be looking for a Realtor. I’m sure I could find a month to month lease. Does anyone have an opinion on short term leasing?

You mentioned in another post, "The Villages at Crismon Creek,1740 S. Chatsworth". That's a decent area. A lot of new construction and close to shopping, schools, freeway access etc.

My area has homes in the $250,000 range. We are in North Glendale. Our zip is 85306. It's a nice area. It's a little far to commute to the zip you'll be working in. commutes are all relative though. I think I could get to 85257 in about 30-40min when the traffic is good.

i know in south/and west phoenix its gets pretty bad, list of large gangs [LCM/******* Power/Doble/maybe Westside City Crips used to have about 300-400 members then got raided/Southside 40st./18st./Mexian Brown Pride 13/Sur Trece/Southside Posse Bloods/Surenos/Nortenos.More most likely so i would not suggest those areas/Scottsdale from what i have seen is pretty nice but heard its very expensive/Tempe is a party town for college students very active night life/gilbert couldn't tell u much about it but sounds nice/Mesa said to be mormon community but i have lived here for many years and only east mesa is highly mormon, mostly where i lived alot of mexican-americans or illegals in areas lots of gang activity, crime, lots of ghetto areas.I myself have experienced alot of crime around country club & 8th ave. area, lots of drugs.I have seen many gangs fights here on 8th avenue & four of my friends got shot there at guerro park,my cousin also got shot on alma school near main st. your car might get stolen, your house might get broken into to,I myself have been shot there when i was younger, but not all of mesa or phoenix is bad just some parts as i explained, just telling you what i have experienced,i also watched the news couple weeks ago arizona now ranks number 5 in US murders.

Default Crime maps

This link has maps of crime rates in Phoenix. Seems that the worst areas are near freeways, so you can probably figure what area will get worst in the future.

This site has links to crime maps of several large suburbs.

Agree I have friends in that zipcode and they have some neighborhoods and good schools

Lived there myself a few years back before moving to Gilbert.

We are also thinking of moving to Phoenix. My daughter was offered a TSA job in either Phoenix or Little Rock. On one web-site, Little Rock was the one city better than Phoenix as far as crime goes. We've been through Phoenix, but it was many years ago. Only been to Little Rock for the inteview. We only have about $100,000 to $125,000 to spend. We would think about mobile homes, but not our first choice. Any advise? My daughter would be willing to drive up to 30 minutes. Will we be able to make it? Her starting salary is only $26,000 per year also. Any and all advise greatly appreciated.

How big of a place do you need? 26,000 not a lot Phoenix is expensive.
