Thanks guys. I guess I was asking two questions which lead to confusion. Is it a busy metropolis and does it have reminiscence of a lawless western frontier in the likes of Tombstone.

When you lead a life as dull as mine you cope with it by creating fantasy places in your head!

Hahaha! OK, then. It's a metro area of over 4 million people. It does not, in any way whatsoever, resemble a lawless western frontier. Though you're welcome to drive a couple hundred miles south to Tombstone and see a touristy version of the wild west. And, this is just my opinion, so your mileage may vary.

Sadly that is true, there are no real cowboys left around here at all.

There are some want-to-be cowboys and they are the ones who have the gargantuan pickup trucks, usually lifted and towering above the average vehicle.

They are usually the maniacs tailgating and cutting people off, probably in a hurry to get to their defensive driving or anger management class.

You can go out into the Superstition Mountains searching for the Lost Dutchman Gold Mine and may see some Indians not very happy for you to be there; or so I'm told.

'cept for the occasional dog or cat, not much road kill here either.

The panhandlers are bold....smart too.

They wait 'til ya exit the store before they hit you up for cash.

The pros far outweigh the cons here tho.

It's a nice place to be.

We visited Carefree and were going to have lunch at one of the old saloons, but every seemed too drunk in the middle of the day to take the kids in. So we left and ate at the Horny Toad. Awesome! It felt a little wild there to me, in fun way ,and I can see a modern day cowboy or Harley rider feeling comfortable there. But along side grannies from Michigan buying burro plant holders.
