Someone told me there was a good authentic German restaurant on Bell Rd in or around Surprise. I've been searching the internet but cannot find any information, even on Yelp. The closest I can find to this location would be Haus Murphy's in downtown Glendale (looks good!). Does anyone know what this restaurant is? I'm wondering if it's now out of business or I was given the wrong location. I'd hate to head out there and not be able to find it, though, I guess I could just go to Haus Murphy's. Thanks in advance.

I'm practically positive I drove by one the other day on Bell in that area. Don't remember the name of it, though, nor did I notice for sure if it's still open.

Edit... I found it on Google. Bayrischer Hof. Yelp says it's closed. Try the German Corner in Phoenix or Zur Kate in Mesa.

Or Haus Murphy's on 59th Ave. and Glendale. I really like it. Great atmosphere, great food.

Thanks. I just found out a few minutes ago it was no longer in operation. Forgot all about that place in Mesa. Drove past it once and intended to check it out.

Since moving back stateside in the early 90s, I've only found two German joints which were not total disappointments. One is Cafe Heidelberg in Las Vegas (off the strip, don't bother with Hofbrauhaus), the other is Haus Murphy's in Glendale.

Pay them a visit. They are worth the drive. You will make a point of going back regularly.

So Hofbrauhaus in Vegas is no good? I was wanting to check it out next month.

Haus Murphy's was great. I've had better sauerbraten but it was good and the giant pretzel was outstanding. The beer selection is very small for a German joint but will make do. I'll be going back for sure.

I saw Haus Murphy's featured on Food Network's Diners, Dives, and Drive-ins. The food looked great.
