I'm not a fan of U-6. There is no perfect model, but to include teenagers who would like a full-time job but can't find one, plus stay-at-home moms who had a job once, but now don't and are not even looking, etc., is not the best model, IMHO. Does it have it's place? I'm sure it must. But I do not believe it is the most accurate picture of the employment picture of any given town. A college town or a town with a high percentage of single-income families could skew the data.

Agreed, there's no truly accurate stat but it is clearly a better measure than U-3. The skewness is typically factored through adjusted (vs unadjusted) measures.

Things are looking up and up, and the tables have quickly turned. Between this and the third-largest-job-growth news that came out a couple months ago, Phoenix is now (and again) one of the hottest job markets in the country.
Thank You

I noticed Actinic had no response to this and ignored this post. I would like to hear the negative Nancys address this fact!

This is an example of haters manipulating information to support their agenda. This is a clear example of Phoenixairconcens quoting a year old article to dispute the current situation rather than accept current data. It's classic

Keep in mind, this is the same person who falsely claimed Arizona led the nation in asthma rates which is completely false. Me being a physician, I happen to know the facts on epidemiology regarding that area and saw the b.s. a mile away.

All I know is that they're hiring like crazy at GoDaddy.com, Paypal, and Amazon from what I hear.

Good post, thanks Ritchie.

I think an improved employment situation is about the only that will get the sorry state of housing to start improving, get people working to start taking a bite out of the excess inventory.

And when you account for the recent move by companies to set up headquarters here and creating offices here, it looks like the local economy is finally moving in a positive direction.

Add Intel to that list, they are also hiring like crazy right now. I have several friends who have high level management positions and they are very active right now.

Maricopa Community Colleges - Maricopa Career Network - Home - is another great place to start. I recently moved to Arizona and landed a job within a week. This site(thanks to a friend who told me about it) provided me with pages upon pages of job postings to review.
