As for gas vs heat pump...I don't even know what kind we have, how can I tell?
Ours is at 63 at night. It comes on about dawn and heats up to 68 sets back at noon, and that is it for the day. It rarely gets down as low as I have it set at night. In summer I cool it down to 71 at night. II sleep a whole lot better in a cool room.

General rule of thumb, if it's a furnace, it's gas, if it's a heat pump, it's electric. A lot of areas don't even have natural gas service.

I use a vicks vaporizer for humidity and it has lasted me a few years, it puts out a warm steam and I love it in the winter.
