They had Romanian restaurants in NYC. My father was Hungarian but lived in Romania.

I figured either NYC or Chicago was the one place where such restaurants would be most likely to exist. I lived in the NYC Metro Area for a long time, but Romanian was one cuisine I never sampled. Thanks for letting me know it is available somewhere in the U.S.

Googled and came up with this:
Transilvania Romanian 15820 N. 35th Ave., Phoenix, 602-863-3300. Hearty Romanian food is the specialty here, although the menu also features Eastern European and Continental specialties such as schnitzel and veal Cordon Bleu. If you’re adventurous, you’ll want to try the appetizer sampler, sour meatball and tripe soup, mitetei (garlicky sausages with mustard), stuffed cabbage and a wonderful fritter-like dessert called papanasi. Lunch and dinner Tu-Sa. $-$$ |

Damn lots of Romanians on here...
![]() The only Romanian restaurant in Phoenix is at 35th Ave between Bell Rd and Greenway. I forget the name, but it's in a strip mall on the west side of the road. Quality wise? Eh...I"ve had better and the location is typical hole in the wall type place, but if you're from Romania, it will feel close to home. Something more popular with Romanians is Sultan's at 57th and Bell Rd (next to Party City) on Friday nights. It's not so much about food, although they serve it, but it's all Romanian music all night, although no traditional music...but more of what you would hear at clubs in Romania, both pop and manele. It's usually a pretty good turnout and I've had an awesome time every time I've gone. One other place, though it's Bulgarian, not Romanian, but they also host "Romanian night" once in a while is Mirage at 35th Ave and Greenway. The place is small but very nice, more of a restaurant atmosphere then the bar style at Sultan's, however it's not as popular and probably because they don't allow smoking indoors while Sultan's does...and you know Romanians and their smoking. ![]() As you can tell, there is a pretty big concentration of Eastern European places in the NW Valley and especially of Romanians. There are three Romanian churches that I know of and many many Romanians in the area...especially north of Bell and west of I-17. |
