Try Squaw Peak mountain (or now it's called Piestewa Peak). It's off the 51 at Glendale/Lincoln Dr. The gates are open until 10pm. Also you can catch a good glimpse of the Phoenix lights if when you exit Squaw Peak mountain and go east on Lincoln and then go south on 24th Street. Lincoln Dr is also a nice drive, too.

Or for a view on the south side of Phx looking north across the valley you can go to South Mountain (it has all the red lights from the TV/radio antenna's on top). Take Central Ave south and you will hit it.

FYI, 5 & Diner on 16th st between Camelback and Glendale is open 24 hours and is a better late night place than IHOP or Denny's to suck coffee into the wee hours of the night.
