I pay about $1,350 for a one bedroom flat downtown with a metro station right in front of the building.

I was going to say about $1200 or more, unless you want to live with the riff raff.

That's not true at all. I'm paying 675 for what I consider to be a really nice apartment in a decent part of town. However that same apartment even 3 years ago was going for nearly 1k. Rent prices have really dropped.

I've been doing a ton of research - primarily in Glendale/Arrowhead area. I'm finding lots of places (1BR) that look very nice, at least online, in the 7 - high 800 range. Two bedrooms seem to be 1,000 and up. On that note - does anyone know of any places in the above mentioned area that have 1 BR/2Baths? I cannot envision living with only 1 bath but can envision a 1 BR. working out if it is spacious.

I can't imagine any one bedroom apt with two, or even one and a half, baths. especially in a "normal" price range, in any area.

I moved into a Mark-Taylor property in Tempe, one bedroom, newer/upgraded features and pay 800/month.

On top of that, I pay...

~20/month water/sewer/trash
~25/month renters insurance
~85/month internet/tv (qwest and direcTV)
~125/month electric (on average, winter months considerably lower than summer)

I was also looking at apartments in central Phoenix and most decent ones run 750-900/month for the larger type complexes. Even the highest end 1 bedrooms I saw topped out around $1300/month and there are definitely smaller and older (but still well maintained) gated places that can be found for around $600. Keep in mind there is a trade off.... these smaller units, while cheaper, are older, very little closet space, and very small/stackable washer/dryers.

I researched and looked at lots of places and never saw a 1BR/2BA combo. That wouldn't seem to make sense for any 1 bedroom floor plans. Even the 1.5 bath places I saw were all at least 2 bedroom.

Thanks for that info. Do the Mark Taylor Properties rank high at the top of the lists? Comparable/equal to Archstone?

I did see one 1 BR 2 Ba - in, someplace in or around Sun City - maybe it was in a manufactued home...that was a couple weeks ago.

I live in a 2 bed + 1 3/4 bath (one toilet, two sinks, two tubs...weird!) with a walk-in closet, for $580 a month (including taxes, cold water, sewage, trash). It's in a decent part of town; in Mesa on the border of Tempe, 5 minute walk to the Apache/Price-101 light rail stop. Very nice community with three pools, two hot tubs, and fitness center. Love it here!

Royal Palm Village has 703 sf, 1 br, 1.5 baths. It's a mix of condos and rentals. They are loft style. 23rd Ave. and Northern. Rent is about 600 inc water/trash/sewer. They were getting close to 800 at one point. A 1/1.5 is more common than a basement, but still rare. Thanks for reminding me to raise the rent next time.
