Yes, and the real news in the article is that construction tax receipts were up over 20%. As everyone knows, construction is king in AZ (and of course not subject to food tax). The rise is sales tax receipts in construction is further evidence of a recovery in that sector. Earlier reports of job gains were very strong in construction as well.

The builders have started up again as well. Before people complain, there are used car buyers and new car buyers. Same with homes... There are people who demand having a new home even if it is more $$$'s.

I don't think anybody is saying we are out of the woods. But if your glass is still 1/2 empty and you don't see any improvement, it might be time to reflect internally versus blaming the economy. It's about working harder than the guy next to you and not being in the bottom 10%. I realize there are exceptions but it's not all doom and gloom.

Is anyone aware that Ben Bernanke has printed close to 4 trillion dollars over the passed 2 years? Sales are up only in nominal dollars because everything is starting to cost alot more. It is giving an illusion of recovery/wealth. Look at the stock market, a third bubble in 11 years. Unprecedented, at some point the government will be at a tipping point. We have not yet seen the crisis.

Ramse, you are the only person in this thread to nail it. When you print tons of money backed by nothing you will see a fake recovery in the economic numbers because of inflation. However, the truth will soon rear its ugly head.

I personally appreciate the first-hand experiences of those who actually live in Phoenix and are commenting on their own jobs being busier. I don't see the point or relevance for people who don't even live in Arizona trying to discredit those who do.

Exactly! I can give you numerous examples of things improving...

Friend of mine who does tiles just did a huge job at a church, said it was the biggest job (and most money) he's made since before the crash.

I've got 3 friends who a year ago were unemployed who are now all working, and a 4th person who just had two interviews. One of the companies held a 2 day job fair.

A new housing development is going up at Happy Valley and 51st Ave...was desert just a couple months back and now they are doing the streets and all that. Haven't seen a new start up like that in years.

The Kimpton Palomar Hotel at Cityscape in downtown has finally resumed construction, it's been on hold for the past 1+ years.

Another thing though it is in another thread. Developer of a regional mall planned for Goodyear announced earlier this week that plans were back on after being delayed for a couple years due to the recession. This is the first new regional mall to get started in the entire US in several years.
