I'm about 5 years away from retirement and am financially stable and thinking of moving to Arizona. I'm an outdoors person, and want to live somewhere relatively safe, clean and where I can find a home for a decent price, hopefully not much over $100,000.
My college age son might be moving with me, and I'm just looking for a little feedback on the Surprise area. I'm originally from CA and just haven't adjusted very well to Minnesota's long cold winters. I really need to get out of here, but no way I can afford CA, and don't like the crowds so much anymore.

I can totally relate! I live in Wisconsin, and absolutely cannot take this cold weather anymore. After our last blizzard which dumped 24" of snow, and left 6ft snow drifts in front of my doors, and I worked for "hours" shoveling, I said I never want to pick up a shovel again!

My son, who live in San Diego, immediately packed up his bags and golf club after high school and headed off to college, and said, "I'm outta here, and don't ever want to deal with this awful weather again." I have to beg him to come and visit Wisconsin.

I'm 55, both sons now on their own, and I am getting out of here. I am planning a trip to AZ in April to check out the north side of Scottsdale, Prescott, Surprise, and other areas.

I don't blame you one bit for wanting to get out of MN. Isn't the climate just awful! Like right now, I am an outdoor's person and so badly want to go out for a hike, run, walk, or biking, and it is so damn cold. I hate being stuck inside. I know I could go out, but my body just doesn't tolerate the cold. And you never see anyone outside from October through April. What a waste.

I was in AZ several years ago. If you have any questions, or wish to share your thoughts and info, just send me a DM.

Good Luck!

Surprise is an excellent place to find a home for under $100,000. I would get in touch with a realtor to help you narrow down the areas you may be interested in. Best of luck.

LOL when I saw the title of this thread I thought it was about this weekend's weather in Phoenix. Just moved here from Oregon a few months ago and two days into the clouds, dark and cold and I'm sick of it! We do need the rain though, for which I'm grateful.

Try 10-16 inches of cold blowing snow!
