With discussing moving in late 2011, my wife addressed her PRIORITY of having 1st class medical facilities and cancer treatment facilities near by. Hopefully the latter will never be needed, but, with trying to start a family, the former is a must.

Thanks for telling me about these.

MD Anderson Cancer Center is (or will be) at Banner Gateway in east Mesa. Hospitals in the East Valley in addition to Banner Gateway, including Banner Desert (in west Mesa), Chandler Regional, Gilbert Mercy, etc.

Cancer Treatment Center of America's Arizona facility is on the other side of the Valley, in Goodyear. On the west side, other hospitals include Banner Estrella (Avondale area) and Banner Thunderbird (in Glendale).

The Banner Gateway Hospital that Observer mentioned, is a new state of the art hospital.

Check it out Banner Gateway Medical Center (http://www.bannerhealth.com/Locations/Arizona/Banner+Gateway+Medical+Center/_Banner+Gateway+Medical+Center.htm - broken link)

We toured the hospital when they had the grand opening. Their children ward is exceptional. They have color coded walk paths and rooms so the kids can find their own way to certain places.

They do not do treatments in the childs room. That is their safe haven. They go to treatment rooms for any type of shot or treatment. We were highly impressed.

MD Anderson will be complete this year and it will have some beds in the Banner Gateway hospital. It's a top rated cancer center.

Not to mention, we have one of the best neurological/neurosurgical faciliities in the country, if not the world, at Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix. You hope you'll never need it, much like the cancer centers, but it is great to have it there.

You'll be able to get good doctor recommendations from neighbors and friends. There's a cardiologist on the forum who can probably give you some doctor referrals.
