I sent you our property management companies name and number. They are great at finding rentals for people. Best of luck to you. I would avoid Craigslist.

My starting place for rentals is always craigslist....if you are smart and dont buy into the scams that people run on there, it can be a great resource. What area of phoenix are you looking at? I live in the east valley and have for most of my life, though i did spend a couple years in phoenix.

My feeling about it has always been that MOST parts of the east valley (mesa, gilbert, chandler, tempe) feel much safer than MOST parts of phoenix.
Every area has its bad parts, some just more than others.
There are quite a few rentals in mesa and gilbert in your price range.
We are currently renting a 3 bd 2 1/2 bath condo in the dobson ranch area for $775, though you will be hard pressed to find a lot of places for that cheap.

I recommend Craigslist, The newspapers, and there are a lot of property management places around...just type in [whatever city] home rentals and they will all come up.
Hope i helped!
Good luck!

Try www.Rent.com, or have a realtor set up a search for you.

Craigslist has a lot of apartment complex spam. The best places are the ones not listed online! Pick the neighborhood in which you want to live, bring paper and a pen, and look for "For Rent" signs. That's how I found my house. It took about a month of looking, but it ended up being perfect for my current situation.

The apartment complex spam on Craigslist is primarily from the apartment-locator services fighting for market share.

When the wife and I were looking for a house to rent in Chandler, we went through a property management firm. When we were looking in Scottsdale, we used the MLS, and stumbled onto a private landlord with a "for rent" sign next to one of the MLS listings.

FWIW, many private landlords won't post a sign on their property - they see them as an invitation to appliance/fixture thieves.
