Hello Arizona,

My wife and I love Arizona. We will be relocating there soon. We are starting our research and looking for a safe, great place to live.

My wife is a nanny and would like to know where the best places would be to live to find a nanny job. We would like to live preferably not more than 15 minutes from her job.

We heard Scottsdale is great for nanny work and living as well. We would like more input on other places to live in AZ as well. Any input on how the job market is for nannies in Surprise? We’d be very thankful and appreciative for any information.

We would like to rent an apartment complex with a pool at first. We were wondering what apartments complexes cost a month? Any recommendations of complexes as well?

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much for your time and information.

I've never had to hire a nanny. However, my thoughts are that the majority of families that would want and could afford a nanny are going to be in Paradise Valley or Scottsdale. Maybe the Biltmore or Arcadia area. I'm sure there are exceptions jobs for nannies in other areas, but I'm betting this is the bulk of it.

I don't think Surprise is going to offer your wife very many job opportunities, and the commute to PV or Scottsdale will be way for than 15 minutes. There are affordable rental apts. near PV and Scottsdale, within 15-30 minutes. PV has no apartment buildings that I am aware of (maybe some condos), but everything there is VERY pricey.

You should also be researching your employment. Where you live will be more dependent on where you both work - and stretch your commute time to 30 minutes (instead of 15) will give you far more choices. 15 minutes is too limiting, IMO.

It's been years since I've rented, but I know that folks that worked on my admin team in North Scottsdale (and I know what they made) lived in the area with less than a 30 minute commute - some less than a 5 minute commute if they had a roommate or partner.

There are tons of apartments. Unless your budget is severely limited, you will find something. If it's that limited, you probably shouldn't be moving anywhere until you've saved a bit of money as an emergency fund, and found jobs before you relocate. (actually, that's good advice under any circumstances.)

Good luck. It's a wonderful area.

Thank you.

My wife and I only need a 1 bedroom apt. We have no children. We looked at rent.com in the scottsdale area. The rents are going for $565 to and up for a 1 bedroom. I was wondering is that high compared to the other area's of the phoenix?

Thanks again.

I'd guess a bit higher - but there are parts of Scottsdale that aren't all that nice. Also have a look at North Phoenix, maybe around Desert Ridge. Again, your rental location should be based on your job location - NOT the other way around.
