This is more good news for downtown and will increase pedestrian activity which will lead to more development. The article also mentions ASU is building a law school downtown as well.

Phoenix law school to move downtown

Yep, saw this a week or two ago, good stuff. It will definitely increase the demand for housing which is a what we need.

I would not be surprised if one of the D.O. medical schools builds a campus there too which would add to the graduate school presence there. There is already an M.D. allopathic school there. Very promising for downtown Phoenix!

About the ASU Law School...it seems like it is a definite go, it's just the timing that's not set in stone yet. They have to raise money for it first but it is planned for the block where the old Sahara Hotel was, directly south of the ASU dorms downtown.

There is also a lot more planned for the Medical Campus downtown...there is a large education building under construction now and the Arizona Cancer Center, which is a fairly large 6 story building, will begin construction soon as well.

I think putting all these education buildings downtown was genius...they finally found a way to bring people downtown and it's working.

It would have been a good chance for them to point out that IS and Central is NOT Downtown, like many people say it is. Might have been worth mentioning what the tuition is, also. I guess in a place as prosperous as the Valley, prices don't matter.

They didn't say that Indian School and Central is downtown. They are saying they are moving FROM IS & Central to Central and Washington, which is as downtown as you can get.

Great to see the number of students that will be there...1050! Plus 100 faculty with another 40 being added. That is a pretty significant boost for people and I assume they have late classes as well so people will be there past the usual 9-5.

Since the school's moving from their current location to downtown, why would the article bother emphasizing that point? And law school tuition's never a small investment, so, again, not really necessary to a relocation piece. YMMV, of course.

Absolutely! In the past, the strategy was to build housing and hope people would come. That backfired. I remember when Jefferson on Central apartments opened up in 1999 and they assumed big things were going to suddenly emerge in downtown. It didn't.

With education particularly graduate school, it works because students are often forced to live near campus due to their higher requirements and number of class hours. Your life revolves around your education thus you have be close by.

And as the density increases, it will bring more amenities which will lure more businesses. Downtown is going to look very different in 10-15 years.

They could have stated they were moving from Mid-town to Downtown. I think many are sitting there saying "wasn't it already Downtown?"

Why would they think it was already in downtown?
