imtaya2 is correct, about 15 minutes (guesstimate on mileage is about 8 miles). Mapquest is showing the distance to Avondale at approximately 20.06 miles (from I-10 & Palo Verde/Sun Valley Pkwy to I-10 & Dysart).

I am curious to. What is Douglas Ranch and where is this? I liked the prices out at Tartesso, but is seems a little "vanilla" to me. I think that will change when the shopping centers start popping up. Prices seem very good.

thanks gilbertshrum and imtaya2 for the info. I live on the east coast now, and do to a job transfer for my husband, we will probably be moving. I am trying to get a feel for distance between areas I read about! So it this near the Cortessa community, in Waddell I think?

I have never been in a community where there is an HOA, but have heard pro and con stories about them. I have heard where some can even say what kind of curtains you can have in the windows? I heard that you can only plant certain kinds of plants etc. Do they tell you what you can have in your backyard? Does anyone know of a way to get a list of rules before you even move? Don;t get me wrong, I keep a very nice place, and I realize this keeps the home values up. I just worry about not feeling "free" and feeling like big brother is always watching!

Most of the community builders and sales people will have you sign a statement that you have indeed read and understand the CC&R's for the development. If you do not receive a copy you have grounds to sue and they would rather avoid that. In Vistancia we have a huge list of desert plants that we can use in our front yard and we are happy with the overall look. We can do what we want in the back.

thanks MotleyCrew! How about window boxes in the front of homes? I look on line at houses, and never see them. Are all the HOA rules the same in every community? I wonder if I could get a copy before moving into a community??

What I mean is, I wonder if I could get a copy of the HOA rules to see if I would even want to even live in a certain community?

Yes, you can. I would think each sales center has that, or for sure at each community's HOA office.
