Default Possible move to Phoenix

Military family here. My husband has been offered a job in the 85008 area. We wouldn't be heading out that way until August and will likely end up doing the extended stay hotel option while we look for rentals. I've been concentrating my search for potential areas to live in NE Phoenix and parts of Scottsdale but I'd like to get input on more specific areas to look, whether that be zip codes/subdivisions/streets, etc. I'd like to stick with a budget of $1800 a month or less for a 3-4 bedroom SFH. Current commute is about 35 minutes on a good day so I'd like to keep it in that range. Thanks!

I have but I'm unable to pull up anything for that side of Phoenix, he'll be working with the 301st which is a Reserve unit. They're located near E. Oak and N. 54th.

You have quite a few places to choose from that are 30 min away. My Wife works there, and it's about a 20min ride from our home in North Phoenix (32nd&Shea). Tempe, East Chandler, and Scottsdale are within easy commutes. The area close to the 54th street complex is not the greatest to live in (a bit crusty and lots of traffic). Definitly rent and take some time to look around.

Possible became definite since he accepted the orders today. Would Chandler or Gilbert be reasonable commutes to that area?

Lots of apts. have a month to month lease while you look. A little more expensive for that option, but if 1800 is a budget, you can do that easily

The way it works is we have to send movers ahead of us with all of our stuff, and they'll keep it in storage while we look for a house to rent. We don't intend to buy, maybe 6-12 months down the road we'll look at that option but we're only going to be there for 3 years. From the looks of things it would actually be far cheaper to buy but I don't want to be stuck with a house we can't sell or rent 3 years down the road.

We have a budget as far as paying deposit/first month's rent and we can take 5-7 days to look before he has to be at work, so staying in an extended stay hotel ends up being a better option financially rather than staying in a furnished apartment.

Then DO NOT BUY. You sound like you know that already, but I felt a need to reinforce this.

Thank your husband for his service, and your family for supporting him.

For sure. I really have no interest in buying a house. I just want to find a good, family friendly area to rent in with a decent commute. And thank you

There are plenty of extended stay places out there. You might also consider looking into vrbo.com. It's a free site, and you deal directly with owners, rather than third parties (property managers). We have used them several times in the past and have had good experiences. I felt better going through them rather than craigslist. Good luck to you, and I hope ya'll enjoy living in AZ!
