Pretty exciting for Valley residents! This is not just another outlet mall. There are only a handful of high end outlet mall in the country that contain stores like Gucci, Burberry, etc. This is the same company that owns the famous Palm Springs outlet that people travel to from all over the country because of their rare selection of the high end stores. The company has decided to establish a similar mall in Phoenix called "Phoenix Premium Outlets" in Chandler. The Outlets will be next to the Wild Horse Pass Casino and Outlet off I-10.

For Chandler residents, this is really exciting. This is going to further increase development in the area and create jobs.

they also own tempe mills..............

I'm hoping that this would be closer to the outlets outside palm springs though - I imagine they have some good potential tenants, but it's alway a little nerve wracking when they are still working on the leases and can't announce any "who" at the moment

either way it should be a nice commercial construction project and some stores will be there providing jobs, tax revenue, etc

This is great news for constructiion jobs and jobs in the retail sector.

Great news for people who like to shop and buy from brand names.

Just remember. What is the definition of an outlet store?

Today, an outlet store sells specially made goods just for the outlet stores. An outlet store does not sell same goods at lower price then the regular stores. At times though if the regular stores has excess inventory of goods that did not or do not sell at regular store they may send them to an outlet store. Or returned goods sold at a regular store. But for the most part all goods sold at an outlet store are specially manufactured goods just for the outlet stores. In general, you are not getting the full price regular goods cheaper at an outlet store.

Years ago there used to be what is called Factory Outlet Stores. Here you could find factory 2nds or slighlty damaged goods at a much lower price. Since almost nothing is manufactured at factories in US these Factory Outlet Stores have disappeared.

Example: LL Bean. LL Bean had a factory outlet store in Freeport, Maine. Open 24 hours a day 365 days per year. The original factory outlet store had returned goods or goods that had some sort of stain or minor defect. Great bargain could be had there. The original LL Bean factory outlet store was located upstairs above the old tin/metal distribution building. That store is long gone and LL Bean has since opened "outlet" stores in many places. Some goods do come from the catalog and most goods are specially manufactured for these outlet stores. Originally eveything in the LL Bean catalog was manufactured in the USA. Today, nothing in the LL Bean catalog is manufactured in the USA.

It's entitled Phoenix Premium Outlets for a reason. It's going to offer high end stores. Owning Arizona Mills means nothing; they are not required to operate one type of outlet. The purpose of this mall was to create a high end outlet mall in Arizona similar to Las Vegas Premium Outlets, Orlando Premium Outlets, Desert Hills Premium Outlets, San Marcos Premium Outlets and Woodbury Commons. The reason they haven't announced tenants is because they just acquired the land and is still early in its development stage.

This doesn't apply to all outlets. It varies entirely upon the store. For some stores, they create clothes for outlet malls. Gap and Banana Republic are known for creating a line of clothes exclusively for its outlets. However, many stores do in fact carry the regular line at reduced prices hence the reason you don't see a Prada, Gucci, Burberry, Barneys, and Jimmy Choo outlet at your standard outlet mall.

That is their intent. It's meant to be a destination mall meaning people drive from all over to shop here due to its unique offerings.

simmer down champ

All i'm saying is that great intentions mean nothing until the ink is dry, some companies are signed to leases and stores open .... especially in this economy

they can name it whatever they want today - wouldn't by the first time that a project changed in scope out here in the past few years

I think it will get done mainly as planned and it should be pretty nice - but reserved optimism isn't a bad thing

On a side note - it's looking good that glendale will also be getting a large outlet center on the west part of glendale & the 101 .... a couple spots are under consideration, but this is apparently the major front runner

so all in all some positive news

Yeah I agree with you. It doesn't really mean anything. We've seen these extravagant projects mentioned before. I don't see how they would complete this thing by 2013. That being said, they are naming it with the same names they've applied to similar malls they've done so I think it's safe to say their purpose is to make it a high fashion outlet. It doesn't make sense that they would create another generic outlet considering Chandler Mall and Arizona Mills are close by. So I think their goal is make a premium outlet since the state lacks one. Now, whether that gets accomplished or not is an entirely different issue

I know right!I am surprised that they don't even have Diesel at Fashion Square. However they have many Coach throughtout the city...unlike Albuquerque, eww they barely just opened their first Coach store and everyone is like "WOW!this place is going to be like Beverly Hills soon!"

This company makes different malls. AZ Mills is a different concept entirely. Their chain of outlet malls that carry high fashion stores "______ Premium Outlets". In addition to Palm Springs, they also have Orlando Premium Outlets and Seattle Premium Outlets. Your argument is similar to saying "Well the McDonalds Corporation can announce it is opening a Chipotle but but it could be another McDonalds"

It's a totally different concept and niche. The outlet mall being discussed to open in Glendale is not designed to be a high fashion outlet. It will be a really nice outlet mall with some nice stores, I'm sure but if you've been to any of the premium outlet malls in the U.S., you will notice they are distinct. They will have mostly regular stores but will also cary 5 or 6 upscale stores that are not in your typical outlet mall. I was recently at the San Marcos premium outlets and you could definitely tell the difference. They had a Barneys, Burberry, Brooks Brothers, Gucci, La Perla, Michael Kors, Talbots, Tommy Hilfiger and Zegna. With all due respect to Glendale, those stores aren't popping up in the Glendale Outlet. The Phoenix area lacks one of these types of malls and that's where Phoenix Premium Outlets comes into play. Notice, they are not naming it "Chandler Premium Outlets" They are naming it Phoenix Premium Outlets to serve the entire Valley as the only high fashion outlet mall in the state. They are only opening in Chandler because they needed a large space and it's next to an upscale casino and hotel that is proximal to a major interstate in a strategic location for Tucson residents too.

And I'm glad they are opening one near Westgate. Hopefully Glendale will learn from Chandler and realize that an upscale casino is not going to bring the area down and will in fact enhance it. Then they can hopefully add a amusement park to the West Gate area and further enhance it.
