The coyote controversy
There have been an increase of coyote sightings throughout the metro area ... not just in the suburban or outlying areas, but in established urban areas as well. In June, a pack of coyotes was seen on my street late at night. Some think these animals are cute ... but when they attack dogs, cats, and even humans, that's when I say that something has to be done!
Coyotes do not belong in an urban environment. They are desert creatures. They're not anywhere close to being on the endangered species list ... but leave it to the protectionists to insist that they remain in the city, and be a threat to humans & pets. The same protectionists will usually tell everyone else that coyotes were here before humans, and if we don't like it, we should move. Brilliant!

So what does everyone else think about the coyote invasion ... keep 'em or shoot 'em?

How 'bout a "happy medium" on this one, Valley?
As with the Mountain Lions / Bobcats down here, catch the Coyotes and relocate them far far out into the desert where they not just belong but will be much better off. If, by some chance, one returns then consider death by a humane means.
Either way, you are absolutely correct, they do not belong in an urban area.

I am one of those who say they were here before us. We are invading their territory, why would we shoot them?? I just don't get it.
I also see a coyote or two late at night jogging down my street. I saw one over a week ago at about 2am. I was standing toward the end of my driveway when I saw something in the corner of my eye, I thought it was just a bunny. I turned to look and it was a coyote standing right in front of my house starting at me. We both stood there looking at each other until he turned around and started heading the other way. He kept an eye on me all the way down the street. Poor thing. I feel sorry for them. If we just start shooting them I will be just sick about it. I guess I have a heart.

When I first read the title, I thought you were referring to those smuggling illegals using trucks, etc. which in that case I'd say 'shoot them!'
lol...but in case of animals...I'd let the authorities handle it.

If you're refering to the animals:They're trotting around downtown Chicago and NYC. You won't be able to 'relocate' all of them. They'd come back anyway.

Besides, they were here first!
If you meant the hockey team, by all means, relocate them! Midwest City, Oklahoma might be far enough away...

confused priorities
It amazes me that we are willing to kill an animal that wanders into our space even though it was once their space, are extremely afraid of humans, that rarely attack humans, that might eat your pet cat or dog because they are considered food; but we are not willing to kill a human that consistently stalks, attacks and kills other humans.

Expgc makes an excellent point. I vote we transport any coyotes we find to North Texas. There's got to be lots of room there for them.

How about we transport all the people who can't deal with the coyotes to north Texas instead? Looking for two million volunteers.

I like to see coyotes. I think one of the truly nice things about living in/near this city is that you can still encounter some of the local wildlife close by your home in many areas. I consider myself fortunate to have seen not only coyotes, but bobcats, a gila monster, and deer within a mile of my house.
My cat stays indoors. I keep my eye on my little dog when outside. I'm with AJ. Load up the whiners and send them back home to the beloved land.
Killing coyotes has never worked for their control. Others simply move in to take their place. Some people feed them and that is a big mistake. Also, if you do encounter one, make noise, yell, clap your hands and scare them. It is important that they maintain a natural fear of humans if you want to keep them at a distance from Fifi.
BTW, owls kill cats out where I live, too. Let's poison them and the hawks and eagles too. Make the the environment safe for transplants! Sheesh! Y'all give me a headache.
