So is APS that much worse than SRP? I've been looking at homes, and consciously avoiding any home listed as having APS as their Power provider. All things being equal, how much more would someone pay for the same "average kwh" used in a particular month?

My experience has been that APS has some better residential rates that does SRP. I don't believe that SRP has any residential rates with a Demand factor. I frankly don't see much advantage to SRP's time of use rates.....not that much difference between on and off peak prices. In any case I would opt to have natural gas service as well. Another poster here mentioned having a summer kitchen out of the living space. I do that, too. I am very serious about giving the appliances the afternoon off.

Both of the electric utilities have their rates on their websites. If you have all the numbers on the house in question, you can get the figures from those websites to get your answers. Do the math.

At this point, you have the information you need. I suggest you go to the websites and see for yourself.

Bottomline, there's not much difference between the two. There used to be a bigger gap with APS being far more expensive but now its not even worth worrying about.

SRP increased their rates by a total of 9% last year and people barely noticed since they will do a small adjustment to transmission charges, a small addition to fuel charges, and so on and on, electricity rates are steadily creeping up, no matter what utility company you have or where you live in Arizona.

How do evaporative coolers work in the monsoon season? Is the humidity in the monsoon season, so bad... that it renders them useless? Or is this meaningless hyperbole?

They are not efficient during our brief monsoon season. However, our humidity never approaches that of other areas of the country, so it's all relative.

Coming from a state where severe winter temps can be that 'nose-hair-tingling 9 above but I have to go out and snowblow', moving here in January was absolutely wonderful but we did use our heat a little here and there at night for comfy cozy evenings. Our home is a 1997 2400 sf 2 story and without any special electric plan, we just paid $215 for our bill this month (and that's keeping it quite cool) and have just changed over to an energy savings plan...not bad considering the previous owners were at $400+ for this time of year. Kudoos to my husband's caulking, sealing and replacing inefficient door insulation!
