Mistachy, as Jkgourmet and Kimballette stated, you got a lot of great information here. Everything was very constructive and the advice was given based on our knowledge of the areas, the distances, and the commute time.

It appears that you didn't hear what you wanted to hear, therefore you feel the thread was a failure.

Hopefully you will give more thought to the information and advice that's been given and do some research to be sure you make the right decision.

Check out Estrella (Welcome : Home Page | Estrella | Goodyear, AZ), Vistancia, and Verrado. All three are top tier communities that are equal or better than any you will find in the valley. I live in Estrella and there are many Luke people and military retirees who both rent and own here. I know, your not normal, but why put yourself through the misery of driving Phx's congested streets when you have some excellent choices within reasonable commute distance of the base? All three of these choices offer both convenience, safe communities (there is virtually no crime in any of them), schools that are among the best AZ has to offer. Churches are nearby as well.

The Phoenix metro area is vast in size, and your requirements can be easily met in many, many communities. A vacation in Glendale doesn't really provide you enough information to decide on something as important as a major move. So you came to the forum for opinions, which is what you got. There was no "Dr. Phil" involved, and people gave you good advice with good intentions. I'm sorry it wasn't what you wanted.

You might prefer to use the advanced search feature at the top of the page, selecting the topic of your choice, and specifying the Phoenix forum. That way, you can read about the various areas of our metro area, and have some of your specific questions answered. Best wishes to you.
Well said Kimballette!

It's always hard to provide helpful information without all the facts. MY experience says schools should be the last concern of this poster if they are going to start a family next year. The chances of being stationed at Luke until any children reach school age being relatively slim and, if the poster doesn't ever plan to accompany his wife to her new assignment then why bother to rent (or be married, for that matter?) Regardless, I think the poster got what he paid for, free advice. My recommendation would be to move here and rent for a period (if you can find a tolerable area) and do your own research.
