Peoria
Hi....
My husband and I are trying for the Peoria Police Dept. and was wondering what it's like to work and live there for our family of four. Thanks everyone for any and all information.

Some parts of Peoria have a lot of crime. If you're going to live there try to get a place near Bell Road in the 91st Ave neighborhood. That area is pretty nice. Anywhere in the Peoria Ave area is kind of sketchy though.

We live in N. Peoria and love it up here. You might want to visit some of the communities up here in the foothills. Sonoran Mountain Ranch, West Wing, and last but not least (my home), Vistancia. There are some great resales here as well as builder incentives. We have a new elementary school onsite as well as miles of walking trails, pools, gym etc. Trend is building a development here and the town homes are very attractive. They start in the lower $200K's. Next to them we have a new Safeway center and soon a town center will start. Best of luck to you.

N. Peoria is great. Look at anything north of Union Hills rd., that's when it gets a lot nicer.

Peoria, like most other cities, has it's good areas and it's not so good ones.
Your decision to move to Peoria is a good one. They need Police Oficers badly, and like others say No Peoria is a great place to establish yourself. Everything is pretty much new in the North Peoria area. But you can find some very nice established neighborhoods scattered throughout the city of Peoria.

If you want a more established neighborhood, the area west of 111th Ave, right south of Olive.. It's older. But its a pretty quiet neighborhood. Other than that, north Peoria is beautiful. The new neighborhoods are very nice.
Peoria is generally the best place to raise a family, on the west side. They've got one of the best school districts in the state, they're one of the safe cities, and you have an unlimited number of things to do, just a short drive away.

confused - trying to find a place too
I have been reading these boards for a few months now trying to decide whether or not I should move to Arizona. I have a job offer, but I am unsure if I should accept because I am having a difficult time finding many positives about many of the neighborhhods.
Peoria has more positive comments, however, but I am still confused by the good and bad areas. I read Northern Peoria is better. But where exactly is Northern Peoria? Most streets look like they are listed as North. How far north does one have to go?
Two places I am looking at are Archstone Desert Harbor Apt. on W. Thunderbird above the 101 loop, and another place called Sagewood on N. 5th Ave by I-17 and the Greenway.
Has anyone heard of or seen these places? Are these in a relatively safe area?
I love to walk or jog, so I want to feel safe out and about.
I may or may not be able to travel to Peoria before I move, so I would appreciate all the help I can get.

Desert Harbor area is much better than I-17 and Greenway.
Desert Harbor area is close to Sun City and is a nice middle class community area, close to shopping, entertainment venues, and most all amenities that you'll ever need.

Thanks
Thanks Nitram. I thought this might be the case, as the apartments looked very groomed on the web site.
