There is life after death! Arizona posted the second/third largest job growth in the country last month and the unemployment rate fell. Minnesota came in first but those were workers laid off in the budget lockout. NC was second. FWIW, much-ballyhooed TX lost jobs last month and unemployment rate rose to the highest in 24 years.

I hope these a career oriented jobs. Manpower leaves me a bit suspicious but even lower paying menial jobs are better than nothing.

Most of their jobs are minimum wage, and they conveniently failed to mention that. My understanding is there is a new trend, where laborers are working for 5 Dollars per hour--cash. That would include the guy with the "we buy gold" sign at Bethany and 19th Ave.

72% plan to maintain current levels

7% plan to cut staff levels

3% are unsure

I'm whelmed.

You are right but it goes both ways. The local headhunters have to relocate people from other states to fill high paying jobs because the local talent pool is weak. It's one of the reasons Google left the Valley. A lot of people who think they are qualified are not. But I also agree there are a lot of consumer related low paying jobs like retail and restaurant and clearly not enough professional jobs. The major reason for that is the lack of colleges and higher education here. We have ASU but other major cities have multiple universities with much larger endowments and funding. Those schools act as feeders and help develop the local economy. Arizona has to compensate by offering major tax incentives and should probably eliminate the state income tax to lure executives who will look to expand in Arizona.

This is the only post in this thread that represents reality IMO. As the global economy is crumbling, anyone who is still putting out green shoots needs to reeducate themselves.

It's true. We were hiring an office manager for our practice which employs about 200 people. We had people apply with an MBA from University of Phoenix with no relevant experience or really any experience at all for that matter. I'm sure those people think the market stinks when in reality they didn't qualify for the job.

I agree with both of you. People want to celebrate the creation of jobs without examining the types of jobs created. Yes, it's nice that jobs are created but with regard to the real estate market, it matters with regard to the type of jobs because low income jobs are not going to enable one to purchase a home. Those low wage retail, service industry and call center jobs aren't going to lead to a spike in home buying. The reality is people can't afford to buy homes on those low incomes and just arbitrarily celebrating job growth without examining the types of jobs created is asinine. Let's Break Out the Champagne, El Pollo Loco is hiring 5 minimum wage workers, uh oh watch out housing industry!
