Cox just gives you a lot more crappy channels. A la carte would be nice since I watch 5% of the channels I am paying an arm and a leg for.

Tonight I noticed I have what looks like a satellite dish of some sort on the roof of the house........it doesn't have a name on it of a company - but looks the standard size - maybe a bit more oval in shape than the round ones.

Could that be for one of the local sattelite providers of TV around Phoenix? Wondering what all's available outside of going with COX again....

I need a land line for my fax machine - the only reason I need it is the fax and to call my cell phone when I lose it.

I also need internet service -- though I should see what comes in free tomorrow maybe if I bring my lap top to the house - out of curiosity.

Does any 'dish' type company use what I have on the roof perhaps - and also 'bundle' with other services?

Thank you!
The dish that you describe sounds like it is an HD dish (the "oval" shape indicates that). There are no "local satellite providers". There is only Dish and DirecTV. If you deal with CentruryLink (formerly QWest) you can get DirecTV bundled with phone and internet. What is best and most economical will differ with your requirements. I have had Cox since they were Dimension Cable and they are the best and cheapest for what I want. Your mileage may differ.

Default I vote for Dish Network

I subscribed to DirecTV for several years before switching to Dish Network. I prefer Dish as they seem to have more diverse HD offerings than DirecTV and I like their channel packages a little better. I also prefer their DVR receivers over what DirecTV offers. As a disclaimer I was a senior field service tech who installed and maintained commercial multi receiver DirecTV installations (both standard and Hi-Def) for more years than I care to admit so I have intimate knowledge of DirecTV. That said, I elected to go with Dish Network for my last three homes. As for Cox, they have great internet and great phone which they offer as a bundle. I've got both and am very satisfied.

Cox's service is great--they always come in a flash for any problem. I had Dish or Direct, can't remember which, and had a major problem with stopping service. We had a year's contract and when it was up, we wanted to stop service and they wouldn't do it. Bizarre. Ended up calling Better Businsess and everything magically was resolved.

We just use over the air TV. The basic 6 channels are plenty of TV in this house and IT'S FREE. We just have a basic antenna that hooks to the TV and is set near it inside to get the channels. Simple.

We use Cox for the internet. I trust cable internet over DSL, as I've experienced numerous blackouts with DSL in the past and wasn't looking forward to that crap again, regardless if it's cheaper. Quest (depends where you live maybe?) is the other internet/tv/bundle service others use. I think they use DSL, and a little cheaper, but I've heard most people using them like them a lot. You might surely find some free wifi networks to use, but they won't be dependable or anything. I'd suggest do some research of Cox and Quest online to compare services and prices. If there's a third party, search them too.

I got my keys last night - finally! Thanks for the posts here - I'll let you know what I choose.... I don't watch a lot of TV - but some. I'll look into the providers you mention - DirectTV is what my realtor said the dish was for on the house last night... We'll see!
