You could hike around Woods Canyon Lake ........ an easy hike of moderate length .... when you turn onto the road to get back to the lake you are pretty much on the rim - there are plenty of very scenic overlooks from there and some opportunity to walk along the rim if you'd like

On the way up or back you could also check out the Tonto Creek Fish Hatchery which is a scenic spot as well

lots of choices....did you want to stay below the rim or go up on it?....

Horton Creek is a local classic below the rim:

or you could go up on the Rim Rd (FR 300), drive a bit, then find a place to park and just walk along the rim itself for as long as you want enjoying the fantastic views

I second Horton Creek Trail - it's a favorite. Too bad it's not Fall still - the leaves are gorgeous up there when they turn colors.

I like the Military Sinkhole trail myself. The part from the 260 up the rim to FR 300. It's a good trail for hiking up the actual rim since it's not too steep in most parts and mostly shaded. Takes you right up to a lookout point off of FR 300.
