Oh...and by the way, my house in Detroit has been burglarized already since I left and they stole the washer/dryer and the water meter leaving my water pipes wide open. Detroiters know how long it takes the water department to follow up, so needless to say the house is ruined (I had drywall, cabinets and tile flooring) because mold is going to be way too hard to combat with the amount of water damage done.

I came here with the thought that I could be robbed the day I arrived because it's just the way of the world, but in a game of chance I bet on Surprise over Detroit. I could be shot walking out of my door tomorrow, but would I regret coming here? Not in the least...because if it were to happen, in my last days I finally felt like I was home.

Also, in any comparison between metro Detroit and Phoenix, I think most people would choose Phoenix.
Ahem.

Metro Detroit and Metro Phoenix are very similar.

2 big differences:

1. Weather

2. Ethnicity

As far as "most people" Kimmy, my opinion is that "most" folks in AZ would rather move back to CA.....and "most people" in MI would rather live in FL.

Is this opinion about crime actually true? When I moved to the East Coast city I am in 25 years ago, people said the same thing. Since I live in a downtown area, my car was broken into once but that happens in the suburbs all the time.

Is crime that bad in Phoenix or is it like the snakes and scorpions, something one hears a lot about but it usually does not affect you? IMHO

Because its so transient, expect to be a victim of crime. Its not a matter of if, but WHEN.

But on the bright side, Arizona is racially tolerant. All races live together. Something you WONT find happening in Michigan.

In our case the snake/scorpion analogy is a good one. We have lived here 32 years, had one car break-in (in the suburbs), have seen one scorpion and no snakes.
