We will be attending a wedding there this spring, and would to get a feel for the area. Tourist traps, locals best kept secrets, and traffic nightmares alike. Its on the short list for our mid 50's semi retirement home, so we would like to see the best and worst in the few days we will be there. Thanks MartyD

Chandler is a very nice Phoenix suburb, but it is not a significant tourist destination in and of itself as far as things to see there. So, no tourist traps that I can think of to fall into in a three day visit. As far as a semiretirement home, it's a very nice place to live, newly remodeled Center for the Arts, good shopping, easy access to Phoenix, its sister east side suburbs, Scottsdale, and beyond. Can't think of any "local's best kept secrets" (I live in Tempe, but like to say I could throw a rock into Chandler, as I'm near its city limits) at the moment, but I'll give it some thought.

In other words, head on up to Scottsdale.

When in spring are you coming? You might be inside in the AC if its later than April. In that case, take in the Chandler Mall. If not, golf at Ocotillo golf course. Or do both !

Yeah, I agree, it's a bedroom community not a destination city by any means. It's a great place to live but we in Chandler venture out to Scottsdale, Tempe, Phoenix etc for activities etc.

I guess it depends on what you are looking for. I live in Gilbert, work in downtown chandler. Yes I go to Phoenix all the time for events. Not much of asu anymore. I personally would rather stay in chandler than Scottsdale. I can always find a ton of fun stuff to do. And I don't have to worry about a 35 mile drunk drive.

San Tan brewery in Downtown Chandler makes the best beer in town, and it has great ambiance, is located in an old bank building with the vault still there. The Mexican restaurant next door is also top notch. Ocotillo golf resort has 27 holes with something like 24 of them having water. Good course and the restaurant there is great (Bernards). Tumbleweed Park in South Chandler is always having events. 2 weeks ago they had a big event for kids with NFL players, sports mascots, other local celebrities, and then a jazz event after dark. I think this week there was a salsa festival with musical entertainment. The Ostrich Fest happens sometime in the spring. The Wine Room in South Chandler is a great wine bar, and there are several others, including South Chandler and downtown. Chandler Fashion Center has upscale shopping and popular chain restaurants.

Order your free visitor's guide here: www.visitchandler.com You have plenty of time. If you enjoy shopping, you'll love Chandler Fashion Center. There is a plethora of restaurants, etc. near by. I like the old down town area - San"]San Tan Brewery has good beer and food. If you enjoy sushi, the Sushi Eye is fun - you can select your food from a conveyor belt that is constantly moving.

There are typically numerous festivals around the valley in the spring. I think you'll have a great time!

Obsever53 is correct (as usual), but just for kicks, I'll add a few of the things I miss most about Chandler /Gilbert /Mesa (which I always considered as sort of tied together.

Lee-Lee Asian Market
My Sister's Closet (high end and designer clothing, but I admit the Scottsdale locations are better).
Ranch Market
$2. 95/glass wine at Outback Steakhouse
Virtually any vietnamese restaurant
Saguro Lake
The roast pork at Gourmet of Hong Kong (Dobson & Baseline).
Fresh roasted chile's at Food City
