Ridiculous. Please stop listening to people who tell you that you won't be accepted in AZ. Makes no sense for someone to make those comments. Wouldn't that make THEM racist? It isn't 1935 anymore. You will have no problems in Phoenix.

There is more racial bigotry in the West Valley (areas such as Peoria, Avondale, Goodyear, Surprise) Avoid areas where there are a lot of lower income Caucasians because they tend to be more hostile.

Some of my closest friends are black, and have never had any issues with racism from white pople. You might be surprised to find most of the racism against blacks is from the Mexicans, and vice versa. When I was in high school it was a huge issue.

I don't suppose you have any actual...facts to back up these wild allegations?

I won't entertain your income stereotype, but I will defend Goodyear. It is among the most affluent communities in the state with a higher mean household income than Chandler, Tucson, and Scottsdale, for example. It also, from personal experience not silly generalization, is among the most accepting places you are going to find. There is a good deal of international diversity here owing to the presence of Luke AFB.

Here is a link you can look over to educate yourself before you go bashing a city you know nothing about:

Personal experiences. That's all.

There are racists EVERYWHERE. Period. Including the Valley. That said, they are hardly some teeming majority here. A few people saying you might have a problem doesn't surprise me, but that doesn't mean you WILL have one. Good neighbors are good neighbors. Most people here tend to let people live as they wish. There are many, many mixed couples/marriages here, all sorts of mixtures. The children would probably be even less of an issue, if an issue at all, as there are many children here of mixed races in both two parent and single parent households.

Telling people to avoid entire suburbs (and entire demographic groups) based on a single person's experience is painting with WAY too broad a brush.

You can deal with the crap yourself, but who would want to see their kids have to live with a bunch of bigots who hurt them? One of the reasons that I have stayed in Phoenix over the years though I have often thought of leaving is that racial tension here is very much on the back burner compared to everywhere we explored as a potential place to live.
That is what I said, my husband and I can handle it but my worry are my children. We live a very diverse area it is about 50/50 and a fair share of bi-racial children and I just want to make sure that we don't go somewhere where they will not be accepted.

Well the Coyotes play in the WV and one of their players dressed up as Jay-Z so of course the WV is full of seething racists

amazing how people throw out such dopey comments without a single shred of evidence to back it up

I have family (Black and Black/Hispanic) in Tucson and in the greater Phoenix area (Scottsdale, Glendale and Peoria). In my experience, the least amount of prejudice has been in the Scottsdale and North Phoenix areas. The most amount of prejudice has been in Avondale, Goodyear and Peoria. Both subtle and overt prejudice in a few different instances.

There will be people on here, who do not encounter such racial hostility in their own lives, saying that it does not happen...but it is a concern. And in my experience, the more affluent areas tend to care less about the issue (because they are too busy doing their own thing) but the less affluent "people" can be down right nasty.
