Really?! Haven't noticed such a trend yet. So, my days of freezing to death in any public building might be over! Maybe I'll go see a movie again in a regular theater (the cheap theaters are warmer). I never did understand why frigid spaces are considered a sign of prosperity... I have a few guesses - to keep you uncomfortable at work, so you don't doze off; to be able to wear professional clothing (suits), but how many do that in AZ... I believe I had another one, but can't think of it right now. Oh, yeah, the number of overweight people constantly complaining of being hot would be a good reason as well.
My office problem certainly got solved after wearing heavy jackets and socks in May and June in AZ! Our old building was rented with utilities included in the rent. It was a meat locker, understandably. Somehow, I had this good feeling that things will change in the new office my company owns. Sure enough, it's pretty comfortable here.

I agree the heat was prolonged this year but I haven't noticed the AC being used any less. I still have to wear pants and a long sleeve if I have to see a movie. All the hospitals are freezing cold and patients routinely complain about it being cold despite the fact it was a 115 outside. I wear a shirt and tie with a labcoat and I'm fine. I don't see any of the other doctors on the wards complain about it being too warm. I still feel that it's get cold.

I thought the department stores like target, kohls etc were no relief from the heat this year. you didn't feel a cool blast of air when you walked in I could tell they cut back on the air.I don't even think the malls were worth getting out of the heat for. they were not all that cool either. I think it cut down my shopping it was more comfortable to stay in my own home. a Stores need to reward the customers for braving the heat to drive there, walk the hot parking lot into the store with a nice blast of cold air when you step in not to mention lugging your purchases back to the car in the blazeing sun, Then getting in the 140 degree car, on a bright note, I saved some money.

This has evolved into the worst post ever. It's gotten silly. You've all gotten soft.
Please go overseas and walk about any big city without stench, filth, pollutions, etc. permeating your visit. Even crossing into Mexico you'll notice rank pollution near the border. It's 100 times worse in the heartland. Still, it's nothing compared with China, India, etc.
We live in Disneyland when it comes to lifestyle.

At first, I was with you. I thought you meant, "hey, this is a pissing and moaning thread, get with it you softies"
But instead, it was a "stop complaining" posting.
We all know (or should know) that being nearly ANYWHERE in the USA is a world of difference with regards to sanitation, filth, prosperity, "stench" and more than the rest of the world.
This type of posting was put on a site dedicated, for the most part, to discuss whether or not one place is better to move than another. Having a thread to rant or post what you DISLIKE about a place is AS important as the posts regarding what you DO like about a place. IT HELPS THE PROSPECTIVE MOVER.
So, there are always tons of postings about what good things there are about the Valley of the Sun. Let's also allow for other viewpoints as well, and leave those threads alone if you disagree.
Have a special day.

I've been living overseas in Germany for almost six years now, and what I have noticed is that it is cleaner, quieter, and safer.
Public trans saves lives by keeping traffic congestion down and giving drunks a safe way to get home.
We leave our garage unlocked. Talking on a cell while driving is illegal. Retirement is guaranteed, health care as well. Taxes are about 40%.
Things change as you move further East. The Czech Republik is still a little rough, and they burn coal for heat (bleah). Greece is incredibly littered but mostly safe and friendly. The worst threat of crime, and grime, we experienced in London. Ireland was lovely (windy and cold!).
Haven't seen India or China, so can't say anything about that.
We're at the end of our tour, and job-hunting.. hubby applied for something in Phoenix and I looked at him like he was nuts. I'm originally from Texas so I've lived in the heat, but something tells me Austin's got nothing on Phoenix.
Now leaving another Disneyland (the castle was based on Neuschwanstein here )...

[quote=lukeache;1355211]Hey all: thanks for the heads up on my moving, so I don't go some where having that idea that any large city is any different than any other large cities out east. Poeple just feel they have to stay guarded unless they know you well. Self estem issues. Appreciate everyones insight on dealing with the heat.

I sooooooo feel ya! I moved to Phx 3yrs ago from Chicago. BIG MISTAKE!! I love the weather but cannot stand the people or environment. NO culture, diversity, or fashion. You are so right about everything except the weather, I can take 100 degrees everyday instead of 15 below. Moderator cut: rude, insulting remarks It has been miserable for me. Im relocating to San Francisco. It is good to hear that Im not the only one who feels the same way about Arizona.
