Has anyone installed wood floors? Can you recommend a company? &, about how much did it cost? If you used wider boards was the labor less expensive since there was less work to do?

I don't think any installer is gonna give you a break on wider planks, they'll just go bt sq footage. Unless you get REALLY wide boards, like 2 per room!
Have you thought of doing it yourself? I did it, but it was on a plywood subfloor, not a slab. It was scary at first, but I really enjoyed it. If you pay $4/ ft for wood, then it's basically about the same for installation. So a 12' x 12' room would be ~$600 done youself, $1200 installed. I did 4 rooms on my own, and saved about 2 grand after buying all my tools and supplies. If you have to finish the wood up against existing tile or carpet, that is a bit harder maybe. I had Home Depot do my room that contained steps (they charge A LOT for each stair!) and I'm glad I paid for that. Good luck. |

A friend installed them where I currently live, boards are probably 3 inches wide, therefore the installation was less.
