I plan on moving to the Phoenix area sometime next year, between the summer and winter of 2010. Most of my immediate family has already made the move out there, so I know I won't be alone. One sister lives in Chandler, another one lives in Tempe, and my mom has a house in Coolidge, quite nearby the Casa Grande ruins. You can actually see the ruins from her front yard. They suggest I move to Tempe, because it's a college town, plus I'm just freshly out of college myself so I will feel at home there. So, as a poor, student-no-more, what would everybody's advice be for me? Thanks!

Think your family is right about Tempe. I would LOOK seriously into Scottsdale and downtown Phoenix if you can find roommates to share the cost which would be significantly more. But that is what many of my friends have done while on a budget.

With all the negative talk about Buckeye's future, I was wondering what everyone thinks about Tartesso's future. Do you think it will be a crime infested area? Or a safe community? I'm concerned because of all the foreclosures and lack of activity out there. I think it has great potential, but I'm sure it won't be as great as Verrado.

"With all the negative talk about Buckeye's future"

I personally think Buckeye has a bright future. I think if one could look into some kind of crystal ball, Buckeye in 50 years will be one of top five largest cities in Arizona. I think there will be a lot of high-end developments (and developments of all prices, for that matter), a lot of shopping and dining, higher education, parks, etc. It will take a while, but I think all of that will happen. Granted, there will be a few "bad areas" but you'll find that in almost every town.
Just how nice Buckeye will be depends a lot on who gets voted into the city government. El Mirage and Tucson are examples of what happens when the wrong people get voted in. Goodyear and Surprise are examples of what happens when the right people get voted in.
I wouldn't worry about Buckeye (and Tartesso) that much.

I have lived in Ahwatukee for 5 years and enjoyed it very much. There is everything you need within 5 miles, South Mountain hiking trails, good school districs, and about 10 minutes from Chandler Fashion Center. If you find you dont care for that as much, Gilbert is a growing area, and North Scottsdale is nice as well.

I would look for a job and then move somewhere near your job.

It is out there. I think it will be considered "out there" for a long time to come. Buckeye, as a city, is unorganized and hasn't caught on to how things work in AZ.
