I was wondering, is Scottsdale considered part of the East Valley? I know they are in Area Code 480, and also they are in the service area of Valley Metro's East Valley Dial-A-Ride. However, the East Valley Tribune doesn't include Scottsdale.

So, I was wondering, is Scottdale considered part of the East Valley?

I've never thought of it as being part part of the east valley but I'm no expert.

I think when most people (and the media) use that term, they mean SOUTHeast Valley, not including Scottsdale, which has kept a separate identity when referring to different parts of the Valley.

Yes, Scottsdale is considered to be in the East Valley. And as noted, not included in the Southeast Valley (which is the primary coverage area of the East Valley Tribune). Although I think lots of people use the two interchangeably.

I guess we'll agree to disagree on that one-- it is just not that cut and dried. I've heard way too many references to "Scottsdale AND the East Valley" as two different areas.

So, to the OP-- if you are in a direct conversation, you can ask the speaker if they mean Scottsdale as well. If you see it in writing, hard to tell. The area code and the newspaper really aren't the defining factors.

I am with Observer53 on this one. I have never considered Scottsdale to be East Valley. To me, East Valley is a Mesa-centric area south of the Salt. Starts with Tempe and Chandler and heads east, possibly reaching over and grabbing Ahwatukee as well.

Of course Scottsdale is in the east valley.

Where else would it be, South Africa?

It is, of course, on the EAST side of the Valley of the Sun, just speaking of geography. But, the way many use the term "east Valley" or "East Valley" it's a separate area.
