Default Scottsdale or Chandler?

my hubby and I are relocating to AZ in June due to a job transfer. Don;t know anything about AZ although Scottsdale and Chandler have peaked my interest. We are in our 50"s (a young spirited 50), we bike, hike, swim, kayak, love sports. the theater and the arts. Our children ae grown alathough I expect them to visit frequently (both in their 20's)...would you suggest Scottsdale or Chandler?

Where will you and he be working? You easily have 35-45 miles between parts of Scottsdale and parts of Chandler.

Given your situation, I would say Scottsdale. If you had children, I would say Chandler.

I would vote Chandler just because Scottsdale seems to have a bit of a premium just for being in the resort town of Scottsdale. I haven't lived there but when I do spend time there it reminds me a little of what I figure Hollywood must be like. Beautiful, rich people trying to be seen at the right spots in the right outfits. Superficial, I guess.

Scottsdale is really two cities. South Scottsdale fits the image your are describing due to Old Town Scottsdale and Fashion Square. North Scottsdale is a little different. It has some of the South Scottsdale vibe but it also caters to older couples. A lot of people in their late 40's and 50's live there. They have a lot of restaurants, golf courses, art galleries and other elements that cater to them.

Chandler, like Scottsdale, has something for everyone however it is more family oriented than Scottsdale IMHO.

I would say Chandler too. I live there and love it, so much to do. It is close to the 101, 10 and Rural Rd takes you right into Tempe. People are soooooo friendly here.

Either one will work for you. It's going to be a matter of personal choice after you visit each of the areas.

There is a difference in price per square foot for homes between Scottsdale and Chandler.

Below is the current monthly average price per square foot for each:
  • $93.66 per sq ft Chandler
  • $166.88 per sq ft Scottsdale

I live in Chandler and agree that is more family oriented than South Scottsdale. But if you love upscale shopping, Scottsdale (or Snobsdale, as some call it) may be for you.

Chandler is mostly a safe, clean place. Have you checked out Ahwatukee? It's a small area situated at the base of South Mountain. Lots of houses for sale, West Chandler-adjacent and would not be a bad commute to Tempe for work.

Good luck!

If he's working in Tempe, I'd say Chandler, or Tempe, for that matter, over Scottsdale. Why spend all that time on the road?
