I don't live next to Luke AFB. My property is up in Prescott.

Besides the topic is about increased noise levels, something that was NOT there long before the developments.

Let's raise the level of discussion and leave the rudeness elsewhere, please.

Looks like the F35 at Luke AFB is moving forward as the AF stated that Luke is their top preferred training site for the F35. The last hurdle is this summer with the environmental impact analysis.

Everyone who buys near Luke has to sign a waiver that they understand that there will be noise. That said, it never stopped the local towns from doing everything they could to sabotage Luke or the Politicians from selling off land needed for Lukes operations. I can't see how luke can handle anything noisier than the F-16. I recall Holloman AFB having signs up "Home of the F-35"

As I recall Dysart High Schools almost got the F-16 scuttlled. You can expect them to be leading the whiners. F-16s can take off and land going south because of them. The only way Luke iiss viable is if it moves to Gila Bend

I was surprised because when Luke flew F-104s (Germans) and F-4s (which were noise generators) there was as much if not more noise; the F-15s had two engines to the Viper's one. The F-16 (with its turbofan) is higher when it flies over the school area than those older and noiser turbojets. The standard runway 3 (to northeast) departure was designed to avoid the school.

Of course, back then Luke was an isolated air patch.

There is a lot of debate as to how loud the new F-35's are. See F-35 recording deafens Val-P meeting | webb, noise, valparaiso - News - Northwest Florida Daily News (http://www.nwfdailynews.com/news/webb-17331-noise-valparaiso.html - broken link) . This supplied link claims that the F-35 is 15 decibels louder than the F-16.

Every +6DB doubles the sound pressure level to the ear. According to that link, the F-35 is two-and-a-half times louder (2.5X) than the F-16. Any Luke people on the forum that are in the know? I think I am far enough away so 2.5x will be somewhat annoying but not all that bad. But I have to think there are plenty of people that are not going to appreciate 2.5x the volume. That is going to get very loud for some people closer to Luke.
This is simply not true. its no louder than the F16

With MIL power, the maximum expected noise is 109 dB for the Saab Gripen NG and 110 dB for the JSF. With afterburner the values are respectively 114 dB and 115 dB. For the current Dutch F-16, the results are from 104 to 107 dB in MIL power and 111 to 114 dB with afterburner."

The study also notes that the F-35 is likely to use less afterburner and carry out longer sorties (ie. fewer take offs and landings) due to its improved operational radius.

I was asking people who might be in the know. If your expertise comes from personal experience, then I am excited to hear that the levels are close.
