I give up. Obviously some girl must have broken your heart at one time and now you are angry at the world. Obviously she was from Scottsdale.....

I enjoy Scottsdale's beauty, natural beauty. The people are another story though. You'd swear you were in Beverly Hills with the way some of these people act. Ive seen it a million times and it makes me chuckle. 22 year old kids spending every penny their 20K job allows just to buy a entry-level BMW 3 series. Or the endless convoys of Hummers with 23" chrome bling, watching them pull into old apartment complexes. Scottsdale IS about image in most cases, and its laughable. I love driving into Glendale, Peoria, etc, its nice to see people who go about living their lives w/o spending themselves broke trying to impress other people. My BIL did the same thing when he moved down there. He changed his dress, his car (BMW 5 series--used), his music, just so he could fit in at Horizon H.S. He has since realized how goofy he was and went back to his old ways because why live to try and impress others when you cant truly be yourself. Ive seen it all over town and even in my own family, thats sad! My FIL sold his Vette that he brought down from IL and ended up buying a gay Hummer H3 which is also now decked out in 20" bling-bling-yo wheels, just so he can "fit in". Im a firm believer that most of Scottsdale is a bunch of pretentious folks who try and outdo each other and end up spending themselves broke. PV is where the true money is at, not the 40K-a-year Prada wearing kids I see in Scottsdale.

Well one of my friends who used to live here and really really hated the Scottsdale people moved to Newport Beach where, let's face it, nobody in Scottsdale could ever afford to live. Newport Beach was named the #1 most expensive city in America, and to put that in perspective, Paradise Valley is #117 and Scottsdale didn't even make top 500.
To say that Scottsdale haters are jealous is the last illogical argument of the self-centered people who live there.
I agree that Scottsdale has natural beauty and some very nice places to live along with great restaurants. And yes the people are flashy and have fake boobs, but that's not why I dislike them, I dislike them for their general rudeness and insistence on always bragging about how great they are.
Sorry but if you look at the demographics, Scottsdale isn't rich, nor is it even upper class, it's middle class people who live large on credit.

Well your post kind of sums up the hatred and resentment I mentioned in the orig post. Everyone knows that Scottsdale is not Boston or NYC. Everyone knows that a lot of women in Scottsdale get plastic surgery and like to be well groomed. My question is why do you assume a person is in debt because of the way they look...and more importantly, why do you care so much? The "They will pay down the road, believe me...." line in your post sounds vengeful. I just don't get it.
Good for you or the people that you admire that quietly invest and manage their finaces wisely...Again, I ask, why does anyone who is different/flashy/trashy, whatever you think of them bug you so much? You certainly don't have to have them as friends. If they own the house next door and are decent neighbors....or if you just SEE them walking down the street and it angers you....well that is what I want to understand.
I've spent a lot of time in NYC and some time in Boston. I do think you'd have to agree that those towns have their interesting "populations". When I spend time there do those groups fill me with loathing? Not really!

Wow. I didn't know that once a person lived in Scottsdale could EVER afford to live in Newport Beach! Not even a crappy apartment? That is some great info.
Who even brags about Scottsdale being rich on this forum? I just read a lot of posts like yours making it clear that it is NOT and everyone lives on credit.
It's cool you don't care for the city or Phx or Az. I don't care for Chicago, myself. I don't think the people are evil for living on the North Shore.
I would be curious to hear some of your stories about people in Scottsdale bragging about how great they are. I've been in and out of the area for a while and other than the occasional goofus never had to spend time with people like that.
When I do meet a jerk, I kind of walk off and move on. I've met plenty in NYC, LA, Seattle, Chicago............................... Never bugged me as much as it bugs you Snottsdale haters.

I love the chop salad at the counter! Wish they had more stores.... Love when people bring their babies to the water fountain. Love that they let dogs walk around.
I understand that some people would think it's pretentious and I understand that, but come on...it is in the middle of a bunch of resorts. People want something kind fo fancy and fun to go to.

I myself was very jealous of people living in Scottsdale. The closest I ever came to living in Scottsdale was Gilbert. I still envy those folks. I wish I could afford to live there. Hmmm maybe in about 3 years I can.

Yes, it is a bit like, maybe not Beverly Hills, but perhaps parts of the Valley in LA. (Sherman Oaks comes to mind.) Do some of the people, in S.O. and Scottsdale, especially the ones that try really, really hard to look sexy/important make me giggle. Yes!
My orig post was not that some of the people in Scottsdale's behavior isn't goofy...just WHY does it BUG some people so much that it seems their heads might explode when writing a post about how glad they are to move away from the evil that is Scottsdale. I lived in LA for a while and there is PLENTY to laugh at there. From Beverly Hills to Sherman Oaks to (oh, this is my favorite place to find goofy people that are living a persona) Los Feliz....Didn't make me hate them or the town.
I'm still not "getting: the anger towards Scottsdale.

Scottsdale is for people who couldn't make it in OC-CA, OC-CA is for people who couldn't make it in Beverly Hills, that is my take on it.
They all have the "I'll go in debt before I look bad" complex.
Let the rats race...laugh at them and enjoy your life.
