Being from MN orig I take offense to the usage of Mall of America!!!
No, really I'm kidding but the Mall of America in MN IS SO wonderful! A huge amusemement park inside, a huge aquarium and all the stores you could imagine.
This would be wonderful for Arizona and *if* they could build an amusement park inside like the one in the MN MOA that would be so great for those super hot days...

Does anyone know how much in size this would compare to the one in MN? When they first built it in MN everyone said it wouldn't do well but it's done so well they are expanding and soon it will be the biggest mall in the world ( right now it's in Canada? who knew?)

I see that nobody answered this and thought I would bump it instead of creating yet another thread.

What IS the status with the Mall?

Looking at that link, Prasada is actually a new master planned community with other features including a big mall. Have they started building homes there?

According to one of the developer partners (shown in this link RED Development ), the new mall is suppose to open spring 2009. Has construction started?

The Prasada mall area has 1 million square feet of space commitments allready. Not sure how big it will be when complete. In comparison the Mall of America is over 2,760,000 square feet in space and is the 4th largest mall in the world I think, according to their web site. They do have plans to add additional square footage to become the biggest mall in the world within the next few years. The Prasada development has completed the permit process and will start within the year according to their web site. The project should be completly built out by 2025. The auto mall will be built first and has commitments for 10 brands. ALso interesting fact is that the retail, auto, office, hospital, plan is to support an area of 390,000 people I think. Chances are that means the entire city of Surprise and parts of surrounding areas. Or is the plan for Surprise to grow to those numbers? Not sure on that fact.

It may never get built at all. The "mall" is an outdated concept and the rooftops have not come in as predicted. Estrella Falls in Goodyear has been tabled for a year at least and I would be surprised if it is built as envisioned. I don't know what is planned in Surprise, but the Goodyear model was more of a city street complete with traffic moving through. If/when it comes back I think it will be even more of a "Olde Tyme Downtown" - like Disneyland with misters -concept possibly with residential and office space over the stores than the traditional megabox malls of the 90s.

They call the new shopping malls "Lifestyle Centers" in my part of Pa. Welcome to The Promenade Shops at Saucon Valley Basically a fake town center with restaurants and upscale and pricey stores.

Its highly unlikely it will be built anytime soon if at all. Many of these projects were thrown out there in haste when areas like that were growing at record numbers. Now with the slow down things are being pulled off the table leaving people who were counting on these promised projects when they bought their homes. So glad I stayed put!
