I got sunscreens all around the house last year. Doesn't seem to help the temps in summer at all and now the windows are really dirty.

Mine are screwed into the house.

Is it worth the trouble to unscrew them to wash the windows? Or should I just hire someone to do it ? Or should I just forget it ?

I think it's best to keep the windows clean. A lot of dirt accumulates on the window and at the bottom and sides which can make them harder to open if necessary.

If you're handy and like to do that sort of thing, then it could be a good project and save some money. Otherwise just hire someone to do it.

We just had our windows washed recently, and hired a person who was referred to us. We don't have sun screens, so we didn't have that issue.

We find that sunscreens have definitely helped with the a/c bills on both of our houses that we have owned in AZ. And yes, we do take off the screens to wash the windows.

Isn't your house on the market? If so, I absolutely would recommend that you wash the windows.

I use this Windex product. Seems to work pretty good without removing the screens.

Our sunscreens aren't bolted to the house, but we do remove ours and wash the windows. I don't like dirty ones.

They're dirty because of all the wonderful dust & dirt residue from the "haboobs". The long dry spell we're having now doesn't help the situation any either. I try to wash mine once a year, usually every fall or spring ... and yes, I have screens all over my windows, but they are easily removable for cleaning.
