LeavingIllinois? is on a distinguished road
Default Painting our white walls

My husband and I recently purchased a new construction home in Power Ranch. We love the home and all the wonderful upgrades the original builder specified. The one concern we have is the white walls. My husband and I would like the main rooms painted but are hesitant to do it ourselves because of the large two story great room and the amount of time it will take. Does anyone know how much a residential painter would charge to paint on a SF basis? Does anyone know a painting service or person who does residential painting?

Thanks, in advance, for any advice you may have!

I've been looking for painters too. Recent estimates I've gotten are about $1 per square foot, with the painter supplying the paint.

I don't know of anyone offhand, but you could ask your builder sales people if they know of any good painters. They often know some of their painting subcontractors who'll do it a lot cheaper then someone you'll find in the phone book. Only problem with that is they do it on their downtime from their jobs, so you have to get your painting done in the evenings or weekends. But often you can save upwards of a thousand dollars that way. We did it with our last house and it worked great.

Painting is the easiest of home improvement jobs. I painted my whole house myself inside and out and saved over $3000.00. You can do the same. Try one room or wall at a time and see how easy it is to do. Why pay someone $65.00 an hour or more to do what you can do for the cost of materials.

Great advice, Nitram

A gallon of high quality paint along with a good brush and roller will make a world of difference with an otherwise bland room.

Thanks for the advice.

Back to my original question, does anyone know how much it will cost per SF or a good company? While my husband and I can do it ourselves (we painted our whole house in Illinois) we would prefer to hire this work done. We particularly want someone to paint the huge two story space that continues into a loft and hallway. Time is of the essence with this project not to mention I don’t want my husband hanging from a ladder to paint the second story space.
