SMG - I was only using Taco Bell for a little humor.
![]() I used to work right across the street from where Aunt Chilada's is, which is on Dreamy Draw Dr. and Morton, and it's not that bad. Los Compadres is okay too, you can't beat it for the price. ![]() |

Humor aside, whether "true" Mexican or not, I was surprised to taste how much better Taco Bell was in Phoenix as opposed to here in Cincinnati. LOL!

I have always liked La Parilla Suiza - it's different - Mexico City style instead of Sonoran. Also like THE REAL Garcia's on 35th Ave and McDowell. Not to be confused with the Gringo-Garcias chain. And, although Macayo's is bland, it is a fun place to go and drink margaritas. It's a Phoenix tradition. Although I don't like her politics, our county supervisor runs a restaurant with some history, El Portal, at 1st Ave and Grant downtown. Raul and Teresa's is another historic Mexican restaurant with pretty decent fare - Litchfield and MC85 in Avondale.

Wow, the response so far has been great! From what I've had so far, I'd rate El Taco Tote on Country Club in Mesa as the best Tacos. True, it's a chain, but there's only two in the Phoenix area and their food is really good. For best gringo food, I'll say Gardunos at the Chandler Mall. But I have a whole bunch of new recommendations to try now. Keep 'em coming! Feel free to invent your own category if you want.
