Best Mexican Food in Phoenix
*Carolina's on Mojave (best tortillas by far)
***Over all great Mexican food-Rosita's Place on 23rd Street and McDowell
**Best Hot and Spicy-Los Dos Molinos on Central and Dobbins
***Best Tacos and Fresh Salsas-Juan Jaime's Tacos and Tequila Chandler Blvd East of the 101 by the Chandler Mall.
These are all must try places and you won't be disapointed in any of them. Well maybe the neighborhood and atmosphere at Carolinas might scare you but beyond that they are all winners. Oh yeah Tee Pee Tap Room on Indian School is also one of my favorites.
None of these are chains and are all the Real Deal! Mexican food is my favorite!

4. Best Mexican seafood? there is a place called "San Diego Bay or something like that in Guadalupe...people drive from all over the valley to eat there.
Oh.....1000 times YES on that one! The Shrimp a la Diabla was to die for!
But even though I hate to admit it...being a Phoenix native and all....the best Mex in the state is Tucson's El Charro, aka birthplace of the chimichanga. Try the carne seca. (Damn, I'm drooling just thinking about it!)

I tried Rio Mirage Cafe and I would rate it as ok ....maybe... good. Wasn't overly great...but good enough to return.
I haven't tried Dos Molinos yet... I have heard that Carlsbad Tavern and
Richardson's Cuisine of New Mexico have good food. They are all on my list...
Albuquerque Tortilla Factory on 1507 W. Hatcher is rumored as a hidden Gem...
Si Señor in Chandler is really good. They are based out of Las Cruces, NM....so they are New Mexican/Tex-Mex...

I just read a couple of reviews of Albuquerque Tortillas factor-- I'm definitely going to give that one a try. BTW, Tex-Mex and New Mexican food are two totally different things, with New Mexican being the superior of the two. I've been to Los Dos twice, and I honestly don't think their food is that good. Firey hot, to be sure, but not that much flavor. I also tried this "Arriba Mexican grill" which supposedly New Mexican themed, and I thought it was lousy. Any other New Mexican places in Phoenix, or do I have to drive 7 hours east to get to the real thing?

I went in there once with my friend, and we walked right out because there was an hour wait, prices were way too high for our student budgets, and I looked over their menu and it didn't even look like New Mexican food. I'm not even sure why they call it "New Mexican" when it's more of a creative fusion cuisine. I'm sure their food is good, but it's not really what I had in mind. It reminded me of an independent version of Z-Tejas.
