I used to think that there were a lot of people here from Chicago, but now I think many are from California and other places. If you are from Chicago originally, say hi. I miss the midwest people and would love to meet some that are here now. Oh, and say where in town you live.

By my User Name you know I am from Chicago...Actually, still here, but counting the months until we move out there! I am in a south suburb of Chicago now, but have lived in Chicago most of my life. I am originally from the way southeast side of the city.

I grew up in the Chicago area and lived in Elgin, Elmhurst, Near North Side, Roscoe Village, Ravenswood, Lakeview, Lake Zurich and Geneva. I've lived in AZ for 10 years and currently live in Ahwatukee.

I'm from Chicago, lived in River North and Wrigleyville, Schaumburg, Naperville, Plainfield, and Naperville again.
I have been here just over a year, and really miss the seasons, the Chicago/midwestern vibe, and the year-round activities. I'm trying to get used to it here, but the culture here feels so private and individualistic. I hope that changes with time. |

It's true, most natives have left. The ones you do run into occasionally by and large can't stand what Phoenix, and now Tucson, have turned into. Ironic, isn't it? It's hard to develop any sense of community or place when you basically have predominantly a transient population with no connection to the area. Those dwindling few who say they love it are generally transplants from elsewhere; usually either podunk, small cities or rustbelt dumps in the midwest or places like SoCal where they couldn't stretch their middle-class incomes into anything that amounted to a decent quality of life. If your top priorities to rate a living location desirable are sunny days, the ability to live in the biggest house & drive the most expensive car you can on the least income, &, well... not much else, then maybe Phoenix is for you.
Me, not so much. I need a bit more to consider a community a nice place to live. Chicago = 1,000,000 times the city that Phoenix is. Cold weather? So what- experience has taught me it's the city itself that counts. |
