The greater Phoenix area is huge and is comprised of a number of smaller cities. While there may be some underserved communities (as there are in most large cities), it is FAR from ghetto! Actually, I used to live back East and haven't seen any area out here that are comparable to what I've seen over there. Some facts: it does get hot in the summer! However, a drive up north or to another part of the state helps with that. My family will go to Flagstaff or the White Mountains where temps may be in the 80s. There are good schools here, but you have to search for them or live in the right district. Life here is good, despite those who say otherwise, and it ultimately will be what you make of it.
Consider this; despite the negative comments (opinions?!) this area is still drawing people like you and your family out here. It must have something going for it and you owe it to yourself to check it out. Good luck!

First, Im sorry. BUT, coming from tampa, youre used to heat, just not this "sucking on a blow dryer" type of intense heat. Look at Peoria, Arrowhead area. BEST for shopping, schools. and people.
