Default Grocery Stores

I love Trader Joe's! We had two in Ohio but they each were about a 30 minute drive out of my way (one far east side, one far west side). Now I have one maybe a mile away if that at Promenade! (Also another one directly on the way to work at Scottsdale & Rose I think it is.)

I also like Whole Foods. Again, the location in Ohio was far from me about a 30 minute drive. I know the one out here at Shea & Tatum. Now I see the signs that the new construction literally right across the street from me (Shops at Chauncey or some such they are calling it-right between Desert Club and the theater and stuff at Mayo)---->big sign says they are putting in a Whole Foods there! Cool!

I understand there is a Wild Oats somewhere up here by Raintree or something? Tho given that Whole Foods is buying them, not sure what that will mean.

I am not overly impressed with Fry's. Safeway is ok. I am not sure what else in the way of grocery stores is out here? Because when my son comes in December, he isnt into organic and in general he calls Whole Foods "Yucky Foods". If he even sees a Whole Foods bag, he will not eat lol! (I think I traumatized him on the whole organic and alternative type food thing. When he was about 10 I made an awesome tofu "lasagna". Essentially it tasted just like lasagna filling with tomato sauce but with no noodles. So I just told him I made lasagna but forgot the noodles at the store. He ate like the whole pan and proclaimed it the best lasagna I ever made. Then I told him it was tofu. He gagged and would never eat my lasagna after that unless he saw the box of noodles lol!)

He may like some of the stuff from Trader Joe's-as he gets older he is at least a little willing to experiment with different tastes (he recently decided he liked salmon, and dishes prepared with balsamic vinegar) and Trader Joe's has a lot of what I think he would define as "normal" food.

But he is basically "give me my chemically fed beef pot roast dumped with Campbells cream of something soup that features no less than 999999999 types of preservatives and artificial stuff and dried up zillion mg of salt per serving Lipton onion soup and dump it in the crockpot for about 8 hours" kind of guy. For breakfast, he is Honeycombs cereal or nothing lol!

Not that I know what a Wegman's is lol!

Lol ArizonaBear! My son is a 19 yo (will be 20 in January) who can eat any political affiliation out of house and home. Actually given these text's he has sent me, he may have some democratic leanings in him:

1) "Send food or I will starve" (he is temporarily with his dad who cant cook lol!)

2) "Send your son money to buy clothes"

3) "Here is a picture of my finger I just smashed in a few hundred pound road barrier. Send bandaids."

4) "Waiting on dad to fix the Mustang" (following his rant about paying $$$$$$$ for gasoline in 2 weeks since his dad lives in east BFE by Ohio standards and son has to drive like 50 miles one way to school. Before I left I gave him an older Mustang I had. Still in decent shape-only 75K on it. So he could fix it up. Gets way better gas mileage than the current huge beater Chevy truck with 175K on it he has. Just wont start-we think it is just the battery cabling or the alternator. And needs rear brakes.)

I love shopping at Sprouts. You have one at Tatum and Cactus. I don't care for Whole Foods, it's overpriced and too far from me anyway (20 miles one way). I've never been into Trafer Joes. We never used to have many of them, but now we have several. I always knew it was a good place to buy wine. Even though I don't really drink.

Fry's in ok. I will buy a few things there every so often. The rest I don't care for. Walmart is the cheapest, but I hate shopping there.

Wild Oats is still at Scottsdale and Shea. It's the last one here.

The Wild Oats in Scottsdale is on the NW corner of Raintree and the 101. It is right between Kohls and the Sports Chalet.

AJ's Fine Foods is my favorite by far. Some of the items can be overpriced, but some are the exact same price as Fry's or Safeway...and the ones that are overpriced aren't really the same product. An example is their bread...they have a $4.99 loaf of bread, which is redicilous for a loaf of bread...but we still buy it because the ingredients consist of about 5 things, all of which are household items and not crap you can't pronounce. For regular items, like milk and such that you can find the exact same brand at another store, it's not worth it.
The store itself is nice though...small and actual sort of relaxing, low lighting and usually not a lot of people, so there is usually no wait at the checkout or maybe one person in front from time to time. To top it off, there is only about 3 miles from our house.

Fry's is ok...about the same as Bashas and Albertsons. Safeway seems a bit nicer but along the same lines.

I hate Wal-Mart and try to avoid it if possible, but it comes in handy when you need something at 3:00 AM and nothing else is open.

Speaking of...they are building a Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market grocery only store right on our corner at 67th Ave and Happy Valley. I know they are usually smaller then regular grocery stores, more along the lines of a Sprouts or Whole Foods...I'm hoping it will actually be nice to shop unlike regular Wal-Mart stores.

Great post, ivanabacowboy.

You may want to try SPROUTS . . . Welcome to Sprouts

Although I shop at all three, I prefer Sprouts over Trader Joe's and Wild Oats.

Good Luck!

Im just an ordinary grocery store person. Too bad they dont have a Winn-Dixie or Piggly Wiggly out here.
Actually, I have a friend who works at Albertsons and he says he shops elsewhere because of prices.
But again, I go where the (good) weekly sales are. I dont do any of those 'health-food' stores or go into a store for groceries where they have that 'mood lighting' highlighting cookware, housewares, kitchen stuff, etc. If I need a pan or a dish towel, I'll go to Target. Food City or Bashas is just as good as Safeway or Stater Bros, as far as Im concerned. For me, its about where the best deals for the week are, Im not too proud to save a few bucks.

So, the one at Scottsdale and Shea is gone? I went past there the other day but forgot to look over that way. One map I looked at online still had it there.
