Hubby has an opportunity, well closer to company is relocating his entire department to PHX and its a take it or leave, no severance for staying. I have lived in Utah my entire life, and am used to our hot desert summers but all year would certainly be an adjustment. I would like to find a job in higher ed, and am sure I could get some referrals. How close is ASU to PHX? How about crime? Selling our home might be a problem and so I am sure we would be renting, with two children. Can someone refer to to areas to live in that would be nice for raising a family - good schools, etc.

Any help, suggestions, offerings of advice would sure be appreciated.

There are lots of good areas all over the Valley. You need to come visit and look around. From ASU main campus to downtown Phoenix is about 15 miles, ASU has downtown and east and west campuses as well. There's also a good community college system here. Where you live should have some relation to where you or hubby are working, as commutes can be long. There's crime in every large city, SLC has it, too. There are many areas that are essentially safe. You need to come down here and look around for a few days, or longer if you can.

It is NOT hot "all year" here. No, we don't get snow like in Salt Lake, but we don't have those dreary winter days here either. I was in SLC for a few days in Jan 2011, and my cousin had to drive us up to Park City mainly so we could see the sun for an hour or so. I know it's not like that all the time, even in the winter, but that's what I'll remember for a while.
