Of course, L.A. has the worst.

Traffic can get heavy at times here in Phoenix but having just moved from the L.A. area it really has not been that bad here.

The 1-10 East bound was closed all weekend and traffic was no that bad.

Do you know what a road closure does in Los Angeles?

True. Though there's one part of PHX that drives me batty in an L.A. commute kind of way... the 10 on the west side of town, especially where it's 2 lanes each way. One little fender bender, even one that's off to the shoulder, and it becomes a parking lot thanks to massive local growth + interstate traffic + East/West trucking. It should be 4 lanes in each direction!

I'd be willing to bet that California's Department of Transportation doesn't close full length sections of freeways like ADOT does. ADUHT will often close an entire freeway (both directions) to do one piece of repair work. Funny that they're never seen working when they close these roads and make all the traffic detour.

Naturally, L.A.would have the worst traffic because it's the second largest city/metro area in the nation ... and their way of life is still dominated by the car. Even their increase in mass transit still hasn't made much of a dent in the traffic problems or pollution. But most western U.S. cities are that way (including Phoenix).

And the fine folks at ADOT had absolutely no plans to widen that stretch of I10 in the west Valley until sometime after 2015. It took begging & pleading by the west Valley cities of Avondale, Goodyear, Tolleson, etc. to force ADOT to accelerate the widening project. It's supposed to start later this year I believe.

That makes total sense. Phoenix is the 13th largest metro area, so having the 15th worst traffic is right in line with its size. Nothing to get flipped out about.

1. They do not close all the lanes in LA unless it is a major traffic accident or there is a standoff on the freeway (happens more then you think). Once that happens it becomes a major nightmare...4-5 hours in traffic.

2. Your right, Traffic is where it should be...which is far from the worse...even if it seems like the worst is isn't
