Planning to put some sort of sun protection outside the winows facing the sun.

Sunscreens are fixed so thinking of having roller shades which can be rolled back as needed.

Would like to hear your experience with these or comments in general

btw SRP has some programs if their approved contractors are used....Almost 15 to 20% rebate.

I'm curious, too. I wanted sunscreens on two west windows but I think I'd rather put the $50 for each toward replacing the old windows with new ones instead.

Even really dark sunscreens still let you get a nice view out of your windows, the high-end retractable shades might be nice for security, but they aren't really necessary. We have dark screens & love them.

If you live in an HOA community, be sure to check the regulations before you go any further.

We're quite happy with dark colored screens, which easily are removed in the winter when we LIKE the sun to get into the house a bit.

My house has great screens that keep out a lot of sun (came with the house, don't know who makes them) and they are an after market product. Just installed roll down screens on the back patio and they are ok, not fully sun blocking, but this particular brand found at Lowe's are difficult to anchor at the bottom so if you have a breeze you could have problems.

I'd like the screens that you can't see in but you can see out. From the outside it looks like you have no windows. Having a hard time finding someone who does this. Anyone know of anybody, or a place where I can buy it myself to install?

I think those are just sun screens made custom for the house, in the closest color screen they have. I don't know what part of the valley you're in but I bet you could get those from a store out here in Mesa called Lines that just makes screens. Or go on Craigs List and check out the people that advertise that they can make sun screens (aka 'solar screens' or 'shade screens', for searching purposes).

They're not cheap. My friend had a guy come do his whole house for $1500 and thought that was a great deal.

Poppy, just be aware that those aren't universally popular. We walked away from a couple of houses that had those on the front the last time we were looking to buy. In a few cases, it added to an already dull, unattractive curb appeal enough that we never even entered the house.

I agree they can take away from the aesthetic but I wouldn't think they'd hurt resale, given how easily removed they are.

That's ok, I'm not moving. I actually would have done the opposite, they would have been an attractive selling point for me. I love how you can skip inside window coverings because nobody can see in but you can see out. That is a bonus for me as it's so dusty here I hate curtains and mini blinds are a pain in my butt. lol
I understand it's not for everybody but I plan to stay in the home until I die so I won't care after that fact.
But, this might explain why they are so hard to find. No demand maybe.
