Default Sun City West,housing,relocation

I've been thinking of moving to Sun City West,AZ for 3 reasons-affordable housing,it's woodworking club, and proximity to Cancer Treatment Center of America. What's it like to live there? Is it an easy commute to CTCA?Are the houses well built?Any ideas on an inexpensive way for me to stay in the area for awhile to see if I like it?Any thoughts at all are very welcome.A little context-I've had cancer for 19+ years. am a stem cell transplant patient and I keep the transplant team at MassGeneral busy. They are great but housing is unaffordable and the traffic in the Boston area is awful.Thank-you.

Cancer Treatment Center Arizona: Directions to the Hospital

There appears to be a center in Goodyear which would not be a bad drive from Sun City West. I can't comment on what it is like to live there but we have had a client in the past that did and they loved it. I like the houses in the original Sun City, but our taste is a bit on the odd side. Both areas are very affordable in my opinion and the clubs are great. Best of luck in your search.

Have you considered Pebble Creek in Goodyear? Very nice age restricted community with many clubs and very close to CTCA.

Mass General is a highly regarded hospital/research facility, etc. Cancer Treatment Centers are for profit and not sure about their status, reputation compared to Mass Hospital. I'd do more research for sure.

One way is to come here in the summer when things are cheaper. You can get a summer rental much cheaper than a winter rental and if you can stand the summer, you got it licked.

Also, several of the new home communities like Trilogy and DelWebb, offer the "test drive" stay where you can stay 3 nights in one of their furnished homes for $79-89 night.

Or you could just make some friends here on the forum and maybe they will let you stay at their house free.

I heard that the Trilogy/Vistancia is now building a "vacation" home series which is very cheap compared to the other higher end units there. They will have the same floor plans as the more expensive homes, but not have the high priced counters, tile and fixtures the others do. I think they will start in the lower $100,000's or around there. I want to go see them when they are finished...they are building the second one now.

I'm not much of a hand with computers.Hope I'm doing OK-hitting all the right buttons.I'm surprised that you(Phoenix Lady)know of Mass General's reputation-being so far away. They are great-at least the bone marrow transplant center. I could not more highly them.It is very scary for me to think of getting very far from them but it is very expensive to live here and my commute is hard.Thank-you for input.

Thank-you for your response MotleyCrew.Included with it was alink to directions to Cancer Treatment Center Arizona. It said 17 miles from Sun City West to CTCA and 36 minutes. From threads on Phoenix area it sounds like traffic is heavy during rush hours.

LBTRS-I have visited Pebble Creek's website.I may be wrong but I got the impression property taxes might be higher there than SCW.One website I viewed listed SCW's as mostly under $1,ooo.Also one huge draw for me is the woodworking club at SCW.I read about it on FineWoodworking's website-6,ooo sq. feet and $350K of tools, machines etc..I've not been able to work for quite awhile due to cancer. As a man I miss that.As men go- our work strongly identifies who we are. I have been striving to acquire the skills and tools necessary to build furniture and cabinets.SCW has alot to offer in that respect.Thank-you for your ideas and time.

Many of the older sections of Sun City and Sun City West do not belong to school districts (don't need them, no kids) so they do not pay the school taxes that other communities pay. That is why the taxes are lower.

While it does not apply to all sections, it is easy enough to check to see if the property is exempt.
