before moving here i was in zone 5, had geraniums outside all summer, brought in the house and cut down about 2/3 in the fall. placed in a sunny window all winter unwatered. starting watering in april, moved outside in may. i bought geraniums here last fall and they did well outside all winter. question: will they be ok outside with a little morning sun and lots of water? does anyone ever bring them inside and cut down to give them a dormant period. i'm so used to overwintering them with great success, now i wonder what to do to keep them year after year or is that impossible? any help would be appreciated and thanks in advance.
p.s. i love geraniums mostly because they are idiot proof. also love impatiens but had rotten luck this past winter. any help on that subject? also what other container flowers are easy to grow here? i could go on and on but won't...............

I've never tried bringing them inside, but have brought them under cover (I usually had them in pots) They might be okay with just a little morning sun, and regular watering in soil that drains well. Have no experience with keeping them inside in the winter at all. I don't know offhand where zone 5 is, but it is probably not as dry as here. Whether you could go without watering them all winter here I'm not so sure.

Mine always fry in the summer, no matter how I try to protect them. A friend of mine takes hers up to Pinetop for the entire summer and they thrive. Lucky geraniums.

I've had no luck with them after about May. I just pull them out and put in some vinca, moss rose or marigolds for the hot months. Start over with new ones in October.
