Default 70's and 80's Hard Rock and Metal Clubs in Phoenix Area?

Prior to moving here in January, I was aware that quite a few famous rockers from the 70's and 80's made their home in Phoenix. Having grown up on that music, I am glad to be a part of the community now. Off the top of my head, Rob Halford from Judas Priest, Alice Cooper, Bret Michaels from Poison and Dave Mustaine from Megadeth all have or still reside here. If there are more, feel free to let me know.

However, there doesn't seem to be many 70's and 80's metal spots left , atleast in East Valley. I can actually walk to a place called Hollywood Alley from where I live. However, it seems to be the new Punk type stuff. I liked the older punk like The Ramones and Plasmatics "Wendy O Williams" growing up so I didn't quite feel in place there. Seems it's all discos, dance clubs or sports bars. I'm a sports nut but still enjoy seeing 80's flashbacks too. Other than Kiss and Motley Crue playing in August, not much from my teenage years to see this summer. I am not seeing Van Halen tomorrow night either as I've seen them many times and refuse to pay $125 to watch a band who is cancelling 30 shows because "they are tired." I preferred Diamond Dave to Sammy too so I may regret one last time seeing them. However got to stick to my guns.

Any advice on good clubs that focus on 70s and 80s hard rock and metal would be appreciated. Thanks !

These are not in the east valley but you might want to try them:

Pick up a copy of the New Times. Lot's of show listings and club ads. You're sure to find something in there.

I heard she was living in PV until 2007, then moved somewhere in the LA area.

Yeah, Joe's Grotto is good for that crowd, but like Crys said it's not in the east valley it's in NE Phx.

I think it's mainly because the east Valley locations that are prime hot spots (Tempe & Scottsdale) cater mostly to a crowd that prefers either the newer type of music, or more of the dance/disco type of sound. There are places that feature a variety of other types of music, but there aren't too many around that I know of which feature what you're looking for. Sadly, this type of music is considered outdated these days ... and even rock as we know it seems to have been passed over lately. Even soft rock and good ol' classic rock (which I tend to prefer) are difficult to find anymore.

Also, I can't say I blame you for not wanting to pay a ridiculous price to see Van Halen. I listened to their latest album, and I didn't care for it at all. They really have gotten old & tired, and probably shouldn't be performing live anymore. Even Diamond Dave doesn't sound the same as he used to ... not anything like the classic Van Halen that we knew in the 1980s.

Thanks Valley Native. I moved here permanently in January and temporarily found a cool 80's station in 103.9. That format lasted like 4 months from late January into May. Now it's caca like a lot of the others. 97.9 and 93.9 are the rock stations that mix in some of the classic stuff to my knowledge.

Only concert I am considering is Kiss and Motley Crue at Ashley Furniture in the West Valley in August. Funny how Kiss has been doing "Retirement Tours" since the 1990's. Saw Kiss and Nugent back east in 2000 and that was billed Kiss's "Farewell Tour." Regardless, I believe Kiss is the second longest running band after the Stones. 40 years just about since Kiss's debut album.

100.7 KSLX is the only station that I know of which plays real classic rock, and they mix it up pretty good for the most part ... everything from the Beatles era through the '70s, and even some '80s & '90s rock are played now on that station. They feature quite a bit of the "hard rock" from that time, but not a whole lot of metal bands. I only like some of what they play ... but I was into more of the softer, more mainstream rock of the time (Steve Miller Band, Fleetwood Mac, Eagles, etc.).

Is Ashley Furniture the new name for Cricket Pavillion? I knew it had changed names, but wasn't sure of what they call it now. Anyway, it's too bad you have to endure the August heat to see two of your favorite bands.

just get a camaro. remove the hood. get a milwaukee's best 30 pack. go to Sunnyslope, say Hatcher and Central. hang out on the side of a building or at a bus stop and you'll meet many former 80's hair farmers/metalheads
