Hi all, I'm a 22 year old male, looking for someplace to settle down and start my career. I currently live in Bradenton, Florida, which has a horrible job market, and I'm ready to leave. I've gone to school for Automotive Technology, and have a lot of experience with electronics. I currently do not have professional experience working on cars, but I've been doing it my entire life, so I'd be looking for an entry level tech. position. So, my question is, if I were to relocate to Phoenix, how difficult would it be for me to find work, and what can I expect my starting pay to be around?

Edit: I forgot to mention, for the past year I've been building and testing the electrical portions of custom built ambulances, so I do have full-time experience, just not with cars.

There's plenty of garages and dealers in Phoenix. Are they hiring? That's where you come in. Use the net to look up phone numbers and address'. Make some calls and send some resumes. Jobing.com might be worth your time as well as it's very Phoenix centric.

Do not underestimate yourself. With your skills you should easily be able to find a job. Maybe as an auto mechanic or maybe as a technician for one of the companies that service electronics or even as a maintenance tech at some of the big hotels and casinos. Expand your search beyond just autos.

Unfortunately entry level pay is pretty low $10-12 hour, but with a little luck you can find a position that pays a little more or move up quickly.

Maybe try at the quick lube type service stations - they usually provide light mechanical as well as just oil changes. Be a good place to start to "get your fingers greasy" and build up some automotive experience. There are tons of these shops around the Valley, and turnover seems to be pretty high.

Most places want to hire someone cheaply as possible, they don't care how much experience you have, they will wear you out and throw you away.
